Athenian Rhapsody is one of the wackiest games I've seen for a while

By - | Views: 23,384

Releasing May 14th, Athenian Rhapsody certainly caught my attention in the GamingOnLinux inbox with a tagline of "Make friends and catch IBS". I obviously had to open that email and see what the heck this was all about.

Athenian Rhapsody is an upcoming comedy RPG, one that the publisher notes is "simultaneously a tribute to classic games such as Earthbound, absurdist comedy, and create your own adventure storybooks".

Made by solo developer Nico Papalia with a focus on tongue-in-cheek storytelling and vibrancy, you'll explore the colourful world of Athens as you make friends (or not), engage in rambunctious mini-games ranging from weight-lifting, shooting bugs, or drawing your own bosses to fight, and partake in excruciating challenges such as "Carry A Feather" as you travel from town-to-town. All this in the name of writing your own Rhapsody - a special, unique memento/token of your exact playthrough (no it's nothing to do with NFTs).

This is also the weirdest trailer I've seen in a long time:

I have a key request in for this one because of how totally insane it seems. Hopefully I'll be able to see how well it runs on Steam Deck + Desktop Linux with Proton.

You'll be able to buy it on:

GOG

Steam

Props for an inventive trailer, I guess…? What did I just watch?

It's educational though, innit? I had no idea Athens was like that.

As a corporal being currently inhabiting a physical location in Athens, Greece, I can vouch for its authenticity. The frogs part is mostly at night though.
