Fun 2D racer 'Race Online' [Steam] is set to release tomorrow on April 5th and the developer has detailed some changes coming to online play.

Note: While it is called Race Online, it has a ton of content to play in single-player against AI. I feel that it's a poor choice of name from the developer.

Right now, if you attempt to play online it will dump you straight into a lobby, but they are doing away with that and will be allowing you to run dedicated servers. Although that won't come until after the full release.

This is great, since it means less issues for people trying to play online. Dedicated servers are always my preferred option. It also means we could look to run one, if it doesn't use too many resources.

You can find the announcement here.

I think it's a really fun little 2D racer, especially considering you can make your own tracks and the local co-op works perfectly with multiple gamepads plugged in.

The familiar set of cars, custom tracks, a Finnish developer... Okay this is basically Slicks & Slide online, down to the last detail. And that's awesome! I spent so much time playing Slicks & Slide with my friends back in high school. Can't believe that was twenty plus years ago.

I hope this is half as fun as good old Slicks, and if it is, that GOL dedicated server would be awesome!

Online play is one single feature of the game, it has a lot of single-player to it too.
