3079 Block Action RPG Now On Steam

3079 is a futuristic, open-world action first-person role playing game. All areas, buildings, items, quests and characters are randomly generated. You will find unique lands & challenges. I hope you enjoy it! You arrive on a planet experiencing constant war.

It's been available on Desura for some time, but for those of you wanting Steam your wish has come true!

I tried getting into this one, but it was just too weird for me, didn't really understand anything about what I was doing. I have seen a lot of people speak highly of it including some of you GOL visitors! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I can´t say about the mechanics and how the gameplay works because I never played this game but I can speak about the visual part, I don´t like the way they mix different graphics, the characters seems to be very simple modeled but they have a better texture when compared to the rest (like blocks for example), the cockpit of the ship and the weapons are different, for me some things appear to be out of place of the whole, again, this is the only thing I can say, but I don´t judge a book by its cover, I know it can be totally awesome, I want to play it to have a better opinion.

Great game if you spend a little time to understand it, complete quests to gain coin, or kill things and collect dropped items, either keep em if any good or sell them. The Grappling hook is particularly fun to use. Just a really fun original game, it's why I continue to buy Indie games as they push the barriers AAA do not.

It is true that it takes some time to understand, but I think this is part of the game. Talking with the people provides all the clues you'll need. I usually like the games with free will and vast areas to explore.

I might get the game before the steam sale ends, but I'm on the fence. The aesthetics of the game do nothing to draw me in. Not to say I need cutting edge graphics, quite the contrary. The art style just looks boring and lazy to me and, to borrow a common culinary phrase, we eat first with our eyes. While gameplay quality is also a large factor, presentation counts for a lot in my book.

Got the game (and Gentrieve 2, actually) by backing phr00t on Kickstarter for his 3089 campaign.  I'll echo Liam's statement;  it was just too weird for me to get into.  To an extent, I see what he's trying to do, and I feel that there's a great deal of depth beyond the presentation, which, as phr00t himself admits, is rudimentary in some ways.

That's one reason why he built a smooth-voxel engine for 3089, he wasn't entirely satisfied with the cube voxels, graphically, but felt that he could make a pretty good game anyway. There are free demos for both on Desura, on all the supported platforms, so I encourage every interested party to go get those demos and see if it's their cup of tea.

Personally, even 3089 is weird as hell, haha   I'm still glad to have supported him, though.  I hope that his success with Greenlight, Kickstarter, and the more "accessible" 3089 eventually leads to higher production quality in his visual assets.  Maybe 3099 will be the one to finally crack s_d, who knows!
