A casual reminder that I rely on your funding through Patreon to stay alive

Thanks to everyone who is already funding, I have been able to put out more interesting stuff than I ever could be before. Here's a small reminder that I rely on you guys to keep GOL going!

The Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/liamdawe

I'm already amazed at the level of support I have and I hope more decide to support me in future too.

I provide HTTPS for free by default for everyone (as it should be), all features are generally available to everyone (apart from the dark theme), the ability to set how many comments you see per-page, the release calendar and so on.

I am also committed to never hiding any content behind a paywall, that will simply never happen here.

Without your help, GOL would simply not be here. Thanks to you guys we now have a pretty damn good server with people at hand to fix server-side issues, allowing me more time to just get stuff done.

One thing my Patreon supporters have asked of me is to do more interviews, so I am working on that. I already published one today with the developer of Tether. I have another one pretty much ready and an interview with Feral will be hopefully coming soon too. I am hoping to line up at the very least one interview every single month from now on.

What I don't want to do is remind people about Patreon all the time (I just want to get on with it and do it), as I know it can be annoying. I haven't put out an article asking for support since March and won't do again for some time.

Also a sidenote: When people decide to stop funding, they can enter a comment to explain why. I am never able to see who it's from, and it's entirely optional but one caught my eye:
Anonymous PersonNo longer comfortable pledging to an individual when the site is build on the content/contributions of many

I actually found that quite interesting! So I wrote a script which you can now find here to see who has done what (along with other fun info). Hopefully that gives a clear idea of my commitment here.

To be clear on this one: anyone who contributes to GOL does so out of their own free time because they want to. They do get the offer of free keys when I have them too. I am extremely appreciative of anyone who contributes anything, be it articles or funding.

Thank you for your support and keep buying awesome Linux games! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The site may be built on the content of many, but that doesn't mean that all of them have the same expenses (consider money and time).
Even if half of the articles were from other people, Liam still would need to run the server, pay for the domain, maintain the site and code the features. And currently nearly all articles are written by him, so the point I made is even stronger.

I think this site is awesome and I think most of us want it to continue like that. Contributing on patreon is a great way to support the site, writing articles is another form of support and so is commenting though on a smaller scale.

Quoting: GuestIs it possible to make one-time donations?
Not usually no, it may not seem it but it creates extra admin time (taxes and so on) to properly log individual donations than it does a lump sum from Patreon.

Thank you for the support everyone :)!

Happy to chip in. I believe it is a good idea to setup one time donations too.

Yeah you can definitely pledge and cancel the next month. They send you an e-mail to notify you when your payment goes through, so you can use it as a reminder to cancel at that point. (Just check your notification preferences to make sure, maybe you don't get e-mails by default.)

I think Patreon allows you to cancel at any time, so you could donate for 1 month, then remove. I think. But you'd have to keep an eye on it yourself to cancel things at the right time.
Yep that works for me too :)

Quoting: GuestI want to pay. I really, really want to pay. But you see I'm committed to not paying for Windows/wine/eOn games (paying people to work hard to avoid making Linux games). And so I'm conflicted about paying for a site that so supportive of them.
I get that Wine and eON are hot topics at the best of times and I don't want to end up in a big wall of text about this (as I could go on all day).

I understand everyone has things that they don't like and I fully appreciate your openness on this.

I should submit another article eventually. Sometime this century.

In the meantime, this could have been a great opportunity for you to post an article about the GOL servers and what distros they run yadda yadda all the while casually hinting that the patreon needs some love.
