A Unity developer is teasing the Vulkan API in the Unity engine

By - | Views: 20,599

This is very cool and quite exciting, Na'Tosha Bard, a developer for Unity has teased a little shot of Unity + Vulkan. Looks like it's running on Ubuntu too.

Note: For the record, this doesn't mean Vulkan is coming any time soon, but it is being worked on.

Na'Tosha later replied to me to state that Levi from Unity is the one doing the Vulkan work, as Na'Tosha is working on SDL for Unity currently.

Not surprising really, since Vulkan support is officially listed as in-development on the Unity Roadmap.

wow this looks super nice ^^ :)
I realy love the dedication from Unity3d to Linux! Its in much better thape then for example Unreal Engine, however the Unreal Engine is a much bigger project.

What I dont like, is that Unity 5 still looks like Unity 1: what I am trying to say is, they may add features and new functions, but the general way on how to develop games is not getting generally improved, what is a shame.

Being worked on for some time now. Though, that they're finally going for SDL is a huge relieve.

Having a name that sounds so close to something else and tweeting pictures of a spaceship really helps put that post in a very joyous light :P

My second reaction is that it is very, very cool. I'm really liking the direction Unity is heading!

Na'Tosha Bard is awesome! She did most of the Linux port work for the editor IIRC.

Not very promising in the short term, but at least it's moving.

Linux users don't do Short Term, Short Term is for Windows.
