The developers of Dragon's Lair [Steam, Official Site] said back in 2013 that with enough interest it would come to Linux, fast forward to 2017 and it finally has.

Just today the SteamOS icon popped up on the store with their updated release! The developers haven't officially announced it on Steam, but rather on their forum. When I asked if this is officially release, they replied to me with this comment:
QuoteWe have released it for Linux, but please note that the Linux version is in a quasi Beta state. There are known issues with mouse and keyboard support but the Steam Controller will work. Note that button hovers may not display properly. We will be releasing more frequent updates for this version but wanted to get something in your hands for those current owners.

So keep in mind it's not quite perfect yet.

About the game
QuoteHaven't heard of Dragon's Lair?! Well, you play the heroic Dirk the Daring, a valiant knight on a quest to rescue the fair princess from the clutches of an evil dragon! Originally released in the summer of 1983, Dragon's Lair has solidified itself as a cultural icon in gaming.

Control the actions of the daring adventurer, finding your way through the castle of a dark wizard, who has enchanted it with treacherous monsters and obstacles. In the mysterious caverns below the castle, your odyssey continues against the awesome forces that oppose your efforts to reach the dragon’s lair.

Dragon’s Lair is a fully animated classic arcade game from legendary animator Don Bluth. You’ll make your way through the castle and caverns below and wield your sword against some strange creatures. Beware of your foes, as they are numerous!

It's also on sale with 50% off right now, at £3.49 it's difficult to resist! You can find Dragon's Lair on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: slaapliedjeHaha, I literally just bought this for the Atari Jaguar last week.

Can I borrow you time machine , please ?

Ha, during this attempted play session, I discovered that my A/V receiver attempts to take a composite input and output it through HDMI. I say attempt, because it looked like the horizontal 'hold' was missing, so the screen just kept flipping up and down. Thought for sure my Jaguar had finally bit the dust, but no, I just had to switch over to the 'DVD' input, that I have it hooked up to.

Need to get the S-Video cable and figure out how to convert that tot something so it looks better at 55inch...

One of my most hated games of all time. Hate is not nearly a strong enough word,

Quoting: slaapliedjeI see that both Space Ace and Dragon's Lair is on sale, but sadly Space Ace doesn't show support for Linux. Anyone know if we have to wait another 4 years for it?

They said in the release announcement that all the games would be getting updated to the new engine in the coming weeks.

QuoteThere are known issues with mouse and keyboard support but the Steam Controller will work.

Steam Controller didn't work well for me at all. Mouse and keyboard work if you edit the prefs file to open the game in a window.

I remember playing this long time ago and even though my memories have faded away a bit I recall a strong sentiment of boredom and anger.

I bought it as soon as I saw the article. But I can't even get passed that start button . Steamcontroller and keyboard are both being ignored atm.

I'll need to do some digging for this :( (also I reported this on the steam announcement thread)

I bought a DB15 to USB adapter, so I could play it with my Jaguar controller... :)

Got this reply from the Devs over at the steam forum:

Quoting: Linux-storma;1368380934274014673Thanks for the port, greatly appreciated. It was mentioned in another post that space ace etc will be getting updated in the following weeks as well, would this include Linux support?

The plan is to continue to correct issues related to the Dragon's Lair build first, then follow up with Space Ace and Dragon's Lair 2 support for Linux. Naturally we're primarily focused on getting things working for SteamOS and will continue to debug. Next build update should be post holiday weekend. Targeting July 7th if not sooner.

Loved these games back in the day..

Hmm, so how does this compare to using Daphne?

This brings back memories from my Amiga 500.
I remember all the floppy discs and the constant disc change.
The game was pretty short, i will buy it for linux.
