Albion Online is looking likely to be the most interesting MMORPG available on Linux, and their closed beta test has been announced for November.

To get access you will have needed to support them by buying a founder pack (my referral link), but luckily we will have you covered as we have a copy and I will personally be covering it during the beta. I'm excited, as we have practically nothing like this on Linux, and it does look very promising.

It starts on the 23rd, 24th or 25th of November 2015 depending on what level you backed it at. I will gain access on the 25th as I only purchased the lower end of the founder packs. It will be free to play when officially released, but paying will gain you little extra bits.

Will you be playing as well? Let me know. We should form a big GOL guild. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm waiting for it to go free to play because it looks like it will be awesome. Also we don't have too much MMOs on Linux so it's good that someone is releasing one.

Nice. I have no intention of participating in anything beta/early access, but I'll check it out once it's fully released. Linux is sorely lacking in the MMO department, so it's good to see something like this come along.

I guess the complete lack of any decent MMO is -the- single sorest spot on Linux gaming so far. I am happy to see it remedied, although I am not sure if that particular game will be for me. It seems to be heavy on non-consensual open world PvP (which is a huuuuge dealbreaker for me), and I don't care for its cartoon art style either. I might spend a few bucks on it anyway, just to support MMOs on Linux, provided I can spend it in a way that actually counts as a Linux sale.

Anyone who owns it who has been in previous tests has said it's been really fun, and I'm willing to give it ago. I will be writing up my thoughts, and probably livestreaming during the beta.

I have high hopes, the combat looks like fun too.

I look forward to another MMO on Linux. (The only other one I've tried is Star Conflict.) I've gotten games like GW2 and EVE to work in Linux over Wine, but I don't use Wine anymore and am trying to avoid it. Maybe I'll use Wine after Windows 7 loses support (since I will not be getting Windows 10 ever). The less I have to annoyingly boot into Windows the better. Currently, the only reason are some games and VMWare.

Speaking of EVE... man, if that game had Linux support, I would re-buy it.

I played it during the alpha.
I haven't kept up to date on the latest information, but I think they were talking about changing the way gold works in the game.

I really hope they do because I like the hardcore game mechanics of dropping your loot when you die, but when other players are buying their gear with real money it takes them seconds to undo what it took you hours to make.

I'll definitely be playing it though.

I don't know if this camera view works for me, over-the-shoulder and controllable camera helps with immersion, I think.

I'm also concerned about this. If they bring decent PvE content (preferably instanced) I will probably give it a go. Player-built cities could be nice, if we could make a corner of the world be GOL-town (but then maybe come up with a better name) that'd be awesome!

If you are not into sandboxes and pvp, then you are simply not the target audience. Easy as that. In the early days of mmorpgs, there were very few examples of instanced dungeons and stuff like that.

It was Everquest and later World of Warcraft that brought in that kind of stuff. And with the success of WoW everybody thought that that's the way mmorpgs should be.

Mäh... while I had a lot of fun in WoW and other themeparks I personally prefer Sandboxes much, much more.

In reality Albion Online is more or less an Ultima Online successor. If you're not into that type of game, so be it, move on, but don't try to make it maggoty for the rest of us.

I've been looking forward to a game like this, since I heard of Mortal Online. I love relentless PVP and the thrill of being hunted, the thrill of not being save.

Actually Albion has safe-zones, but in order to see the world, maximize your profits and visit some dungeons you have to move outside of these.

Again: If that is not what you like: move on!

This one looks really good, but a bit overpriced for me. Half the price would have been okay, I guess.

I'm looking forward for Tux City or whatever, once this game is out :)
