Albion Online [Official Site] is set to get another big update soon and one of the big new features is the Black Market, that will end up populating the world with player-crafted drops from mobs.

The incredibly charismatic Robin Henkys, the Game Director, spoke about it in more detail in the below video:

Reminder: Albion will have one final player wipe before the final release on July 17th.

Essentially, you will sell items to the Black Market vendor, who will give them out to mobs across the world of Albion Online to drop on their death. It's a rather unique way of making the drops a lot more interesting that's for sure. Loot is something Albion currently has a big lack of, so this should go some ways towards fixing that gripe of mine.

They explained how it works like this:
QuoteWhenever a mob is killed, there is a chance a buy order is generated for the Black Market. Once there are a certain number of active buy orders for an item, the Black Market will start increasing the price of the item. This means that everything on the Black Market is directly linked to players’ actions in the open world.

As a crafter, you have the option to sell directly to the Black Market, or alternatively set up your own sell orders. When doing this, the Black Market will automatically purchase your item once the price has been reached.

They will balance this, by creating the buy orders for items based on a percentage of silver that the mob usually drops. So they will drop less silver, but drop items too. They will only drop the item if someone has sold it to the black market though, so they may not always have something for you apart from the usual silver.

To also ensure the Black Market isn't flooded with crap items, the vendor will casually "lose" some items.

This will be in the Hector content update, due June 7. Read more about Hector here. You can also read much more detail about the Black Market feature in this news item.

Still, I really hope they do a big PvE content push in one of their next big updates, there's just too little. I like what I'm hearing about this feature though, sounds pretty sweet. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Lack of PVE is a bit disconcerting, but I am keeping my eye on it.

I remember suggesting something along these lines months ago on one of these Albion online threads. They were probably already planning it at the time, though . . . I believe the discussion was about how they figured they could have a world operate, as I think they claimed, based entirely on player-created stuff.
