Aleph One 1.0!

By - | Views: 10,328
Greetings gamers, Aleph One has reached 1.0!

The games the Bungie did before their famed Halo series are open to everyone to play on the Aleph One engine, I have yet to try them but they look pretty good, they look like the earlier Doom and Quake games only with slightly better graphics and other general improvements.

QuoteBungie's Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon Infinity; polished, packaged and ready for download with the brand new Aleph One 1.0 engine.

December 1, 2011 - The Aleph One development community is thrilled to release version 1.0 of the

Aleph One game engine. Since the release of the Marathon 2 source code, the team has worked diligently to deliver a cross platform game engine capable of bringing the classic Marathon games, as well as fan-made modifications to the modern Mac, Windows PC and Linux platforms.

Aleph One, an open source project, enhances Bungie's original Marathon games with modern

OpenGL shader support, Internet co-op and multiplayer, modern mouse-look and gamepad support and plugin support for modifications.

To celebrate the 12 year development of Aleph One, the original Marathon games have been upgraded to take advantage of the new engine features.

Marathon has been updated with a modern HUD, high resolution graphics as well as extensive changes to the scenario to create the most authentic Marathon experience since 1994.

Marathon 2: Durandal has been updated with the high resolution graphics previously only available for the Xbox LIVE Arcade game.

Marathon Infinity has been updated with high resolution graphics.

All three games can be download for free!

It all sounds pretty good as here http://marathon.sourceforge.net/scenarios.php#more are some other games that use the Aleph One engine too made by the community which all look fully featured. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Technically Quake has the better graphics it being fully 3d (Marathon uses sprites and Quake also looks much nicer in my opinion) and both Doom, Quake are much better games to play in my opinion.
Still its free!

this whole bungie thing reminded me of Myth, so after some searching I found http://projectmagma.net/ and been playing Myth II for the last few hours, does a perfect install from the original CD and I still love the satchel throwing dwarves :)

This whole thing has gotten me to install Quake again:

[

Fedora users just need to install the darkplaces-quake package and copy there id1 game data folder to the ~/.darkplaces directory. I also grabbed the high-res texture pack an moved it to the id1 directory as well.

I guess you would have to go digging since they do not have it on GoG. Shame really.
