Arcen Games Porting AI War & More To Linux

By - | Views: 7,698
An article announcing Arcen Games current schedule includes its games, A Vally Without Wind 1 and 2, AI War, and Shattered Haven all announced to being ported to Linux.

Arcen Games are quickly becoming a very Linux friendly developer, and it's a good thing too as their games are pretty popular. We already have The Last Federation & Bionic Dues which are both great games, and now more to come!

Chris ParkI want to get Valley 1 and 2, Skyward Collapse, and Shattered Haven all ported to linux. Tidalis will remain PC and Mac only, and AI War’s linux port will come after 8.0 comes out in August. So that one will be more delayed.

Tidalis was confirmed not to be ported to Linux. When questioned they said it was because Tidalis isn't profitable.

QuoteFor Tidalis… the main problem is that game is just not a popular one, and we’re still something like $50k in the hole from having made it. We’re not going to be making up that gap any time soon, and in order to port the game to linux we would have to upgrade the version of unity for the game from 2.something to 4.x, which is a huge jump. The odds of that causing some various support issues unrelated to linux and general less-functional-ness for a while is pretty high, which would be a distraction and yet more money that we’d never recoup on that title.

What are your thoughts on Arcen Games catalogue? What game are you most excited about seeing on Linux?

This was pretty unexpected for me. I thought for sure they had written porting their existing games to Linux off.

I enjoyed AI Wars back then and I'm sure it'll feel right at home on Linux. Can't wait to see all the changes they've made since I last played.
It's too bad about Tidalis, though I'm not very surprised. Casual games are pretty enjoyable and it's a shame I'll be missing out on it.
I'd like to give Valley Without Wind another try, I thought it was fairly fun.
Bionic Dues looks completely uninteresting to me. I'm not a huge fan of turn-based games, though.
The rest of them I don't really know anything about.

I think Arcen has a pretty nice lineup, but the complexity of some of their games and the lack of apparent publicity seems to hurt them.

This is good news. I bought tidalis in a bundle once, never played it. Can't blame them for not porting that one but everything else means this is great news.

Interesting; I have the Windows versions in my library of AI War and both Valleys. Also Tidalis. So it goes...
