ARK: Survival Evolved is doing the rounds right now, and for good reason. It's an Unreal Engine 4 powered survival game with RPG elements and dinosaurs.

About the game (Official)
As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate... and escape!

The game will release into Early Access in June, and it looks simply fantastic. This could be the game that actually gets me into the genre, and nothing has since Don't Starve. A lot of the problems have been Unity performance, and a distinct lack of fun in games like Rust, and ARK looks like it will solve both problems for me.

We all know graphics don't make a game, but the gameplay itself looks like it could be pretty adrenaline fuelled with massive dinosaurs ripping through gates. The scenes in that trailer are fantastic too.

The developers sound like they know how to please me as well, with full gamepad support, and motion blur that can be turned off.

You can find ARK: Survival Evolved on Steam right now, but the saddest part is even though it lists Linux specifications on the store, we will not see an Early Access release.

Update! It seems a developer got it wrong, and we will see it during Early Access!
QuoteWell to be clear Jat, Mac and Linux will be for Early Access, just not Day 1. In fact we plan to ship Linux and Mac before the end of June within 3-4 weeks of EA launch. We have them running, they just need a little more focus time ;-)

It looks so beautiful in comparison to Beasts of Prey, and with UE4 so much better on performance, but this:

"The Linux and Mac clients will be ready for full release, not for early access, sorry!"

Just makes me sad. =/

I can see how that makes some people sad. Personally, I want nothing to do with Early Access, so as long as we get day 1 Linux release, I'll be a happy camper.

The dinosaur mounts are so cool! Made me wish this game was all about Dinotopia (take away some of the advanced guns and this game could pull it off).

This game looks so much fun!

Does anyone know what their business model is exactly? Please tell me they aren't going to sell in-game items. I'm really getting sick of every multiplayer game doing that, and I kind of miss the days when 100% of in-game content being available to all players online was the standard.

Who cares about Early Access. My experience with Early Access was quite terrible: you pay to be a game tester!!!

No, it will be like Rust, pay once.

i care.. i like to be part of the community if the game is good enough.
i like to see the first ideas (how it evolves) and then the final product at the end...

edit: maybe we should start a new thread about asking to bring this early access version to linux also? if theres enough interest they might change their mind ? :P

Not normally my cup of tea but hunting dinosaurs sounds fun.
