ARK: Survival Evolved has now set an official date as the 25th of June for the release of the Linux (and Mac) versions.

I am rather excited to give this one a go, even with it being early access and not too optimised just yet.

They answered it officially on Steam here.
QuoteYes! We’re excited to announce that we can finally confirm the release date of the Mac and Linux client to be the 25th of June! We can’t wait to see our buddies from other platforms join us on the ARK! Hopefully you’ve all kept in touch and informed via the announcement page and you’re ready to begin your journey :D

About the game
As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate...and escape!

Check out ARK: Survival Evolved on Steam, but don't buy it until the Linux version is actually released. Seems pretty solid, and it's a shame the sale ends before the Linux release. It's pretty tempting even for me to buy it when it's cheap. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

This is actually the game I've most been looking forward to this past month.

TBH, I was skeptical if they were going to release it or not. While I'm not into Survival games (except Don't Starve, that game is awesome), I'm glad to hear it coming out. I will praise them on this though... THANK GOD it's not another survival zombie game.

Well, it also seems to have quite an intriguing story and UE4 makes it look amazing!

Just an FYI to other people looking to get this game and expanding on what Liam has said in the article, the game seems to be very poorly optimised currently (30fps on a GTX 980). Though according to patchnotes, patches have improved this by 10-30%, so hopefully within the next year we can see more good performance gains. Also, just scanning through the forums, the devs seem to be very active and involved.

Is this a pure first person game? Please tell me it's not. This is the first survival game that interests me (I am SO not into zombies!), but 1st person games make me seasick. :S

I'm super excited for this game too. It's an instant buy for me as soon as Linux support shows up.

I think it is. It looks like there's been several threads on the issue on their forum and all say it's first person only (when walking, and 3rd person when riding a dinosaur)

Normally I would say I prefer it that everyone is locked to 1st person only (because of the visual advantage of 3rd person), but I never thought about people who get sick playing in 1st person.
I don't think that point has been brought up in any of the threads either so maybe the devs haven't considered it.

there is thirdperson view also and it defaults to thirdperson view when mounting dinos
i think theres also FoV slider so you shouldnt get seasick if you put it more than 90 degrees

you just scroll out with the mouse wheel.. however most of the servers prevent thirdperson view for obvious reasons..some allow and singleplayer you can play also
