Audiosurf 2 is the sequel to the smash hit music game Audiosurf, and as the name suggests you do literally surf the music. The sequel is available day-1 on Linux thanks to having a build during the Early Access time.

I think it’s a nice game and when I first tried out Audiosurf 2 (a while ago now) it enabled me to find some new music I liked. So not only can you enjoy playing it, but you can discover new music loves! I think that’s the best thing about the game, and shows how well it works.

I tested the new release just now, and I can’t fault it performance wise. A pretty fast tune I randomly picked worked really nicely, and I have again found some new music I like!

Here’s what the developer improved over the original:
QuoteDeeper Song Analysis
Deeper song analysis and track generation with thoughtfully placed corkscrew loops and powerups timed perfectly with big moments in your music. Anticipation of the music is improved visually - and rewarded with higher scores.

Community Mods and Skins
Steam Workshop is integrated and already filled with hundreds of new in-game graphic styles (skins) and gameplay styles (mods) created by the Audiosurf 2 community.

Smooth, Intuitive UI
The new UI coming at launch is smooth, clear, and allows searching local music and cloud songs from one search box.

Visual Styles
Graphics take advantage of today’s most powerful video cards while still running well on modest laptops.

Cloud Music
Online music streaming from SoundCloud, including Song of the Day.

"Live" Competition
Continuously updating in-game leaderboards that feel like live online competition.

Just tried a few songs, it gets it somewhat right. But I feel the keyboard isn't really matching up with the songs. Musics analys stays hard it seems.

... So it analyze the music and build the track instead of being pre-scripted to the music. But can you then use your own tracks? That'd be cool!

It can download stuff from soundcloud, or you point it to a music file on your computer. There is also a automatic "find music" thingy in the game, but turned that off; so no clue what it does.
If you don't mind the download it has a demo on steam(maybe somewhere else too) good for 3 songs.

Ps downside of not pre-scripted: if the analysis aren't 100% neither will the track be :'(

I reported several Linux issues during early access and the developer was very responsive and quick to fix the issues.

This is a unique way to enjoy your music. Watching a video with a random song tells you very little. I suggest trying the demo with your own favourite songs.

"Autofind music" in the settings means the game scans all existing mount points for media files and builds a library. This works well unless you have some auto-mount that can't be mounted, like a missing network share. In that case the game will freeze for a long time (like running mount in the terminal would) so I suggest turning the feature off if that happens.
