Just a quick update about the great online FPS Ballistic Overkill [Steam]. I spoke to the developers on Twitter and it's possible it may see a Unity upgrade to get Vulkan.

When asking them if they will upgrade to Unity 5.6 and go with Vulkan they said:

@gamingonlinux We'll be working on it during next weeks :)

And also:

@gamingonlinux For certain we are going to try, and put it out if it doesn't break the game.

Great news. It's a damn fun FPS game and we run three servers for it. Our servers are pretty popular too, with at least one always full every time I load up.

We've had tons of fun with the game while doing our "Ballistic Monday" event. We play it on one of our servers and livestream it every Monday evening around 8PM (UK time) and anyone is free to join us.

Oh wow, vulkan is proliferating faster than i expected. The game runs just fine with opengl but the more vulkan out there the better. Also I have to thank Liam for the previous post about ballistic. I didn't know that such a great shooter exist! Devs really deserve to support them

Agreed. Vulkan is moving faster than I thought too. I even saw some 2017 editorial predictions online that it was going to be one of the year's big flops, and everyone would ignore it. Happily, not true so far...

I need some awesome FPS shooter on Linux. It could be awesome if they give some DRM Free version like a GoG.

I'd love if Ballistic Overkill was on GOG too.

Quoting: silmethIf you had an earlier version of Windows, maybe. That’s still not free of charge for people looking for an OS for their OS-less hardware, nor free-as-in-freedom. ;-)

Quoting: EikeI had Vista, so it wouldn't be free for me.

The last version of Windows I paid for directly was Windows XP, Windows 8.1 is only on here for Lightroom, until I can get my head round Darktable or Rawtherapee.

Just in case you're serious, all of the "pro-windows" commenters in this thread are joking.

Why? Windows has it's uses, I mean what other OS can we point at & laugh if not Windows?

On April 1st, the title of this site was "Gaming on Windows 10". We were making fun. You're just late to the party.
