Balrum is a 2D old-school RPG game from Balcony Team that had seen a few delays, but it's finally here.

The developer emailed in to let us know, and I replied asking for a key to give it some thoughts but no reply yet. I will hopefully be able to do a more in-depth article sometime soon.

About the game (Official)
Balrum is an old-school, hybrid turn-based, open world indie RPG with deep tactical combat. Explore a huge living fantasy world with dozens of side quests next to an epic main quest. In addition to traditional RPG features Balrum has deep crafting which allows the player to craft their own custom items. Balrum also features farming your own crops, building your home, and survival mechanics complemented by the game's main features. In Balrum you will have a faithful animal companion as your pet. Your pet is fully controllable and adds greatly to the complexity of the combat.

The player takes control of a young man whose peaceful life is suddenly interrupted by events which will change his life forever. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Very much reminds me of Eschalon, a game I enjoyed quite a bit.

I picked it up on a whim after seeing it posted here. This is the first I've heard of it, so I haven't been following it all. It looked interesting at first glance. I didn't play it very long before I requested a refund, however. It just didn't sit well with me. I found the turn based mechanics to be clunky or cumbersome. There was just something about having to wait a second or two between melee swings in combat that really detracted from the game experience. I should mention that I have a halfway decent gaming machine too.The pathfinding was slightly awkward. Someone else might enjoy the game. The survival aspects seemed kind of neat. I just didn't find it fun in its current state. Perhaps with a bit of optimization, I could have found it to be a more fun experience.

Was indeed my first thought when I saw the image on the main page, and that got deepened by the trailer. Sometimes as if it were even the same graphics elements (trees, chests).

That said, I love the Eschalon series, so if/when this shows up outside steam there's a huge chance (like 99%...) I buy it :D

They've fixes issues with hunger being too annoying in the latest patch, so it looks pretty interesting. Haven't tried it yet but tempted.
