EVERSPACE the absolutely gorgeous space combat game with roguelike elements is now officially available for Linux gamers. Today, ROCKFISH Games released patch 1.2.3 which has numerous fixes and improvements as well.

I absolutely love the game, it's easily one of the best space shooters available on Linux. Not a traditional one though, since it's based on random sectors so it's much more about the combat than it is about exploration. You can see some Linux gameplay on our YouTube channel like this video:

Here's how the developer describes it:

EVERSPACE™ is an action-focused single-player space shooter, combining roguelike elements with top-notch visuals and a captivating story. It takes you on a challenging journey through an ever-changing, beautifully crafted universe full of surprises. Your skills, experience, and talent for improvisation will be tested continuously as you piece together the puzzle of your existence through encounters with interesting characters, each having their own unique part of the story to tell. In each exciting run, you will face entirely new situations, ensuring countless hours of thrilling gameplay and generating myriad opportunities for individual, meaningful moments to experience. No matter how skilled you are, death is inevitable but is also only the beginning of a much larger journey.

You absolutely do not want to pass this one up if you like a good dogfight, I'm jumping back in as soon as I hit publish to celebrate.

Grab it now from Humble Store to get both a Steam key and a GOG build or just head directly to those stores, as today also marks the release of the Linux build on GOG too!

How can be Vulkan renderer enabled in the game?

This is great! How is it optimization-wise?

This post is for any buyer having trouble getting Everspace to run on Debian 9 Stretch (stable). You may have tried launching Everspace from terminal only to find: /home/$USER/RSG/Binaries/Linux/RSG-Linux-Shipping: not found
It seems the launcher scripts are looking in the wrong place for this binary.

1. Edit ~/EVERSPACE/game/EverspaceWithSystemLibraries.sh line 4 to look like: "/home/<YOUR USER NAME>/GOG Games/EVERSPACE/game/RSG/Binaries/Linux/RSG-Linux-Shipping"  "$@" providing your username where it says <YOUR USER NAME> and save.

2. You will probably need to backport Mesa 17.3 (Which was backported finally just this week) as is recommended on the GOG storepage.

This is admittedly a messy fix but hopefully the next time you launch Everspace, everything should start just fine.

Quoting: Mountain ManWish it was more than just a shooter. With visuals like that, there should be opportunities to explore and enjoy the scenery.
I suppose for beautiful space settings with time to enjoy the scenery we've got Helium Rain.

Just tested GOG version. If the game gives you "illegal instruction" error, use the script without bundled libraries, and make sure to exclude VLC bundling from there too. It works fine after that and no problem with cutscenes either despite using system VLC.

Is there any way to customize roll speed? Adjusting roll sensitivity doesn't have any effect. It's way too fast by default.

I'm happy to see EVERSPACE finally come! I might get it on GoG since it's single-player.

Just bought Donkey Kong for Switch and received the key for PoE 2 from Fig, Everspace will have to wait another month or so I'm afraid.

This game is really good. You should all play it. I've been addicted to it for the last couple of weeks. Just a few more DNA fragments to go!

Also reading some of the comments. This isn't a twitch arcade game. The controls are arcade, but the gameplay is very much scouring for resources and making the right weapons for the right encounters. It is a thinking man's game. It's a bit like FTL if you were a one man fighter, with a few twists. There is also lots of time to explore the scenery in some areas. Game keeps changing the pace quite nicely.
