Black Mesa is officially coming to Linux, and the developer confirmed so in a rather delightful way of shooting down an anti-Linux troll in the Steam forums.
You may or may not heard of a user who goes by the username "meraco" on Steam. He seems to be popping up all over Linux support posts on the Steam forum to spread anti-Linux sentiments, this time it was different.
After his usual derailing of a Linux support topic, the Black Mesa developer commented:

We built Linux and got errors (as we expected). They're not especially complex errors, but there are a lot of them. As soon as we get a stable build we'll push it to Steam for people to test.
It's good to get confirmation (and fantastic to see a troll get slapped down), as previously they were only evaluating a port, but now it is happening.
Note: The best way to shut a troll down is to post like they aren't even there. Don't quote them or reply to them, just keep posting your support of Linux versions.

I've read some of meraco's posts, and I don't see anything to suggest that he/she is a troll. It seems like nowadays people are classified as trolls just because they have a different opinion. And to those claiming this is some anti-linux, MS evangelist, this is one of his posts from that thread:

Hello there.i would not lie to fact that, i do use windows.but never paid a single peeny to microsoft.dont ask how? i use it coz i play mmo(where linux support is weak).But the fact is, lot of people has the reason to hate windows that they will not even touch it.If that shit, whine about the fact that he does not need linux port, than he can play it without linux.what is the reason for him to moan like a cow and say"dont release it to linux" huh?

I've read some posts and he reminds me of JuanRGA, I only read a handful though. I didn't see anything wrong with the ones I read... Other than he is in pro linux threads saying unflattering things.

About Black Mesa, for someone who never played Half Life (that played little actually), and does not understand the fascination about HL2, episode 1 and 2 (I think), I am really happy that is coming to Linux.
I think there is another remake (the new source engine?) but at the time it seemed that Black Mesa would be better.
I am planning to build my first gaming linux pc hopefully soon, and I would be delighted to play Black Mesa as first game.
Only hope I will be able to use hrtf for sound if the sound allows it.
It would be definitely worth it. Maybe with all the craze of Vive and Rift, positional audio via stereo headsets will get a boost too.

@rontgen about HRTF, sure, but let's hope it will be in open-source fashion (i.e expanding OpenAL's functionality). It would be great to see Valve and Oculus cooperate on this.

I have to admit I'm guilty to replying to that troll, and was also in the Mad Max Linux thread (which if it really is coming to Linux, I need it to so I can finish playing it!)
My favorite comment was the one quoted here about him also playing the Linux supported games in Linux... so.. you play them, but don't want more ports? Clearly an insane individual, or as stated some sort of Bot. I had pointed out several times in the thread that we didn't need the +1, because the whole thread was started by the Devs! Most 'could you port to Linux' threads are started by us as a community, I originally just wanted to thank them for porting to Linux and doing it before the port to macOS, which is the only platform I mostly find silly to port games to (especially the high end demanding ones, since as Palmer Lucky so pointedly remarked "We'll support them when Apple releases some decent hardware")
Speaking of that, it'd be kind of interesting, since most market share 'studies' are done with 'desktop' in mind, makes one wonder if they checked market share on 'gaming' computers. Would we actually have a larger share over Mac users?

I seem to recall than on winblows there were two versions - the original freeware one and the paid for version. That still the case?

The note about ignoring them is a sidenote and not the main focus of the article. It's aimed to remind people who are quoting and replying to the troll which feeds them and make it worse.
I thought this was clear, but needing to repeat this only shows the note in the article was needed.
