Google are starting to boost their library of games for Stadia, with Borderlands 3 and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 now available. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint will also be launching, although not until tomorrow December 18th but it comes with something extra.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint seems to be the first title on Stadia to use their very interesting Stream Connect feature. This is where you team up with others, and actually see their screen on yours at the same time in a box and it supports doing that for "up to three teammates". That's one of the reasons why Stadia is interesting, the extra processing power to do special things like that (more info). However, Breakpoint reviewed pretty badly overall, so probably not the best test-case for it.

Pricing

  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse: $49.99/£39.99
  • Borderlands 3 Standard Edition for $38.99/£32.49 (35% off)
  • Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint for $30/~£25 (50% off)

Today, they also put up some discounts on other games for Stadia Pro (pretty much everyone right now) like 60% off the new GRID, which has a Stadia exclusive Endurance Mode with 40 racers.

As a reminder, Stadia works very well on Linux in our testing. With either Chromium or Chrome (and other browsers with some tinkering). You can see our first impressions here and a full Stadia on Linux livestream VOD here. Our livestreamer, Sin, will be testing Borderlands 3 on Stadia tomorrow on our Twitch Channel so be sure to follow us. We're also currently giving away one Buddy Pass.

It's going to be a lot more interesting once Stadia opens up to everyone (country access permitting) next year. Being out in the wild for anyone to load up Chromium, buy a game and play it. Once a ton of additional people get their hands on it without requiring you buy a hardware bundle—that will be Stadia's true test. Will you be trying it or are you firmly against it? Have a chat in the comments.

Supposedly the Stadia version of Borderlands 3 will only have all the updates applied up till October. They're only patching the rest next year. So you won't be able to play with non-Stadia users.

You can also see games that already came out for normal Linux before to appear on Stadia. Like Superhot.

Quoting: tmtvldoes that mean that there is a Linux version of Xenoverse 2? They should put that on Steam.

I suppose there's nothing preventing Google or the game's devs from using Wine/Proton + DXVK to run Windows games on Stadia. Xenoverse 2 is rated Gold/Platinum on ProtonDB.

Quoting: Avehicle7887it doesn't mean devs are willing to release it for a normal Linux desktop (support costs, the usual distro difference excuse etc).

Let's hope the Steam Linux Runtime will get rid of that issue...

Apparently, the Borderlands 3 version on Stadia is several months old.

Great move there.
Trying to sell not having to update your games on your machine anymore.
Result: Playing old, unpatched versions...

Hard to put the fault on Stadia here, but that doesn't exactly help their rep, either.

Yeah, but there is also a risk with this. When game devs just rely on Steam Linux Runtime and Steam decides to not support Linux anymore...
Than this could kill all Linux gaming.

Quoting: pmatulkaMaybe aspyr will finally make Borderland 2 playable again?
How many months have passed since basic function of the game does not work?

I got fed up with waiting and have been playing the Proton version. It works just fine!

Probably never, they fixed the macOS version a long time ago and the macOS and Linux versions should (at least in theory) have few or no differences so that tells me that they have no interest in releasing also for Linux. Could also be that Aspyr does this for payment (aka they don't get the revenue from sales like Feral) and 2K only paid to have the macOS version fixed.

But that is just unqualified guesses from my part.

Wait, BL3 is now available on Google and MicroStore Soft, but not yet on GoG or Steam? If this doesn't change soon it be time to see if it's been released in 'torrent form' after the holidays, and 2K can suck it.

It's been about 8 months now. I checked recently. It's got me thinking about marketing an Aspyr voodoo doll on Etsy ... XD

BL3 Steam date has always been April. That has been said since they announced Borderlands 3.

(unbounced-Tigger voice) Ah, well, thank you. Looks like I went a bit 'RaagghhRR!' there for a minute. ;)
