Browser-based Battle Royale game surviv.io has continued to improve

Recently on my quest for a good Battle Royale game on Linux I came across surviv.io and I was impressed, since then the developers have continued to improve it.

Since I last wrote about it, they've added in smoke grenades, dual pistols, a SCAR-H assault rifle, a bank building to loot, a police station full of loot and plenty of optimizations resulting in a game that's actually quite a bit smoother than it was before. The stuttering I experienced sometimes before, has practically gone.

They're still working to add in rivers, cities, melee weapons and an account system so there's plenty more to look forward to.

I'm still surprised at just how addictive the game is, considering the lack of good Battle Royale alternatives, for now it fills a small hole for me. The fact that you can join up with your friends, simple by sending them a link to join your party is pretty awesome.

If you haven't given it a chance yet, be sure that you do, it will surprise you.

The biggest problem with both this one and the other BR browser game you wrote about is the fixed key mappings. Until they fix that, non-qwerty users are out of luck.

Maybe as a workaround you could try remapping your keys using third-party soft? Like xdotool for example :)

On the topic of the game, it's really fun, give it a try with your friends, it's much more relaxed than the "serious" battle royale games like PUBG :)

Not only that, but Linux still doesn't have even one proper BR game. Outside of browser games we have one that totally failed and their Linux support was terrible, plus the game is now completely dead and a few rough modifications for games.

The story would be different if we had a few, but we don't.

It IS essential for the player's comfort. The first and unavoidable step for a good gameplay experience is key mapping. Too many type of controller, keyboard mapping (Dvorak, local qwerty & azerty, player style (people that play with numeric keyboard,arrows, rfdg, ujhk,...), strange peripheric stuff like this one, etc.
Code for comfort will never be a "waste of code", that's the essence of a user experience!

I realize this rant is not about that, but I would like this game to actually get out of the browser. A SDL port would be a nice thing to have :)

As much as I agree,maybe this should be handled at the browser level itself? Sort of a steam-controller-API-like?
Actually, it would be better to handle this at the operating system level itself, but browsers these days sort of fit the bill for that definition.

Configure globally commonly used shortcuts such as jump, fire, run, etc. And only forward the action type to the game.
