Blaze Entertainment's latest Evercade-compatible device makes for an excellent entry to licensed emulation on Linux.

Shown off during the recent FOSDEM 2024 event, it seems the Manjaro Linux team have buddied up with hardware vendor Orange Pi for the Orange Pi Neo gaming handheld.

When I first got the original Linux port of Doom working it was done to satisfy my curiosity. This being Doom though I soon found myself drawn in, but there were some oddities I encountered. This also made me inclined to try playing all of Heretic and HeXen, a feat I had never managed up to that point. Would I encounter any more issues with these early source ports?

We were so close to seeing another gaming handheld ship with Linux out of the box that isn't the Steam Deck, but it seems AYANEO with the AYANEO NEXT LITE weren't convinced enough and so they've changed their minds.

AYANEO has now revealed the specifications and pricing for the Linux powered AYANEO Next Lite, which will be using the SteamOS-like HoloISO, although customized by AYANEO for the handheld.

Well there it is! MSI Claw A1M is the official name of the next big vendor to jump into the handheld gaming space to take on the likes of the Steam Deck, ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go.

Much like AMD did today for CES 2024, much of NVIDIA's event was also all about AI but there's a few bits in there for normal consumers like the announcement of Half-Life 2 RTX, plus GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series GPUs.

Amongst a whole lot of technobabble about AI AI and more AI, AMD today announced the Radeon RX 7600 XT, Ryzen 8000G series and new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.

Begun, the handheld wars have. It seems like every company now wants a piece of the pie doesn't it? Even MSI appear to be jumping into the fold now with an announcement due at CES 2024.

A common refrain has always been that if developers would just provide access to their source code, then the Linux community would be happy to step in and do the heavy lifting for them; and when Slingshot Game Technology decided to call our bluff and released Soul Ride under the GNU General Public License in 2003, the Linux community did indeed rise to the challenge.

Not exactly a surprise but still great to see for Steam Deck fans for the ongoing support from Valve, as the Steam Deck is now firmly the global top seller on Steam once again.
