Dome Keeper is a real gem with a simple yet highly satisfying gameplay loop, and it seems it's done well for Bippinbits. Even though they're working on the incredible looking PVKK, they're not done with Dome Keeper just yet.
It's hard to pull me away from Bloons TD 6, but Terrorformer TD has managed to do it. A tower defense game where you constantly tweak the battlefield as time goes on.
Currently reviewing well from users on Steam is Nordhold: Origins, a free tower defense game with high replayability where you build up a medieval Nordic village.
Developer BCQT released Frontline Crisis earlier in August, and like a lot of smaller games it seems to have flown under the radar but if you love tower defense and top down shooting you need to play this.
Here's a fun surprise for you today, Infinitode 2 - Infinite Tower Defense is a free to play game that just added Native Linux support on July 30th.

I love indie developers because they keep making some of the most weird and wonderful combinations, and a recent discovery is Artificer's Tower. The devs say it's a "cozy colony sim resource management game that features base-building, tower defense systems, and powerful enemies to defeat".
Dome Keeper was already pretty great. Giving you a mixture of mining, exploration, base-building and tower defense and now it's quite a lot bigger with a free update out now.
