Celestian Tales: Realms Beyond is an RPG with turn-based combat that will serve as a sequel to Celestian Tales: Old North. It's currently on Kickstarter and will feature Linux support.

The developers say that if you played Old North and completed it, that it will read your saved game and adjust the world to your actions. That's pretty sweet, shame I didn't find Old North all that great but hopefully Realms Beyond will be better. You don't need to have played Old North, since Realms Beyond will accommodate new players too.

I liked the art in Old North a lot and I'm pleased to see them continue the lovely hand-drawn environments, as it does look absolutely gorgeous. The game features over 30 fully illustrated characters, who each have facial expressions during dialogue to show their emotions, which does look pretty decent.

What I like is that they're trying to balance the combat and storytelling with fun, without a grind for potions. You heal up after battles and your whole party will earn experience together, which sounds nice for those not wanting to level up for hours to progress.

They currently have $9,574 pledged of their $15,000 goal. They have 20 days left to hit their funding, so they should easily make it. You can find the Kickstarter here.

If you don't own Old North, the Squire level pledge is a fantastic deal. It includes Old North + all DLC for $14. To get Old North + DLC on GOG, it would cost you ~$25, so getting it plus Realms Beyond for $14 is a fantastic deal!!

It isn't clear on the Kickstarter page, but I messaged Ekuator Games via KS, and they confirmed that the Old North codes given will be for both Steam and GOG!

I like a soundtrack from the video above. IDK, may be I will like the game. It looks pricey for me, probably I will buy it someday with huge discount. I wish good luck to the developers.

The first game (Old North) was very ambitious for the tiny team that produced it, and it turned out surprisingly good. The main strength is the writing. Each character and NPC has their own personality, history and motivations. Dialogue is good and the story is intriguing. There are a few choices to make and each is thought provoking and has consequences in the story.

There are six party characters. When playing you pick one and see the story through their eyes. You play a short origin story and play the game from their perspective. I played the game twice and seeing the story from two different perspectives was really interesting. You get to see why characters acted or spoke as they did on a previous playthrough. It's a clever work of interleaved narratives, though it wasn't enough to motivate me to play with all six characters.

The combat part of the game was not as commendable but good enough to keep playing. If they can keep this high standard of writing in the next game, and keep the combat manageable or even improve it, it will be a very good game.

The feels, reminds me of FF for some reason.
