It has been pointed out in our Telegram chat group (thanks Kithop) that Aspyr Media have said on Steam that Civilization VI has entered final testing for Linux.

See this post:
Aspyr MediaThanks for the support! We are testing the FC now, so with luck it will be very soon.

FC = Final Candidate.

For those who have me on Steam, you probably noticed Civilization VI pop up on my account as I've done some testing on it myself, as has GOL contributor BTRE. I won't be saying anything on it until release.

I will say, that I will do a livestream on the day of release. I don't personally know the exact date, so don't ask.

It seems it will also get a sale when it release for Linux. One user asked them not to put it on sale, as they want to support them at full price, to which Aspyr replied with:
Aspyr MediaHate to disappoint...but Aspyr/2K will be rewarding Linux users for their patience ;)

Here's hoping :S: . The CIV:Beyond Earth Aspyr Linux port has a large number of Linux users on their Steam forum who are unhappy...as far as a sale goes, when CIV V came out, the day of release they made it available for 16.99 with all of the DLC. That was a monster sale indeed.

It's funny how they needed longer to "assess the feasibility" of the port than making the actual port.

But glad to see it's coming!

Again, people don't seem to understand what feasibility means. I did explain it before, but to explain again.

Checking the feasibility of a port doesn't mean it isn't being worked on, it means they may have hit unexpected problems they were trying to overcome. I don't know any specifics, but it's clear it was being worked on for some time to be able to arrive so soon.

Thats awesome! And Owlboy has just released on Linux today thanks to Ethan Lee, plus Pillars Of Eternity II has been announced with Linux support, as well as CAYNE being released for free on Linux and STASIS entering final beta testing. Great start to the year!

Everybody is sad about Beyond Earth, in every platform.

Yes tux, yes bucks!

I'll buy it even if it won't run on any of my current computers.

I'll almost definitely get it, but not at launch. Nothing against Aspyr or Civ, it just happens that the Disgaea 2 PC port comes out on Monday and the Disgaea games are a MASSIVE time sink. Civ is also a MASSIVE time sink. It's just not practical to try to run 2 big time time sink games at the same time.

I know what feasibility means. And I find it...funny...that it took two or three months for them to decide whether or not they can make the port. All source code can be ported by definition, and any porting house worth their salt should know if a Linux version of any middleware components used in the game is available. Closed source components are pretty much the only real obstacle for a port I can think of, and researching that part doesn't take months. I don't know what the problem -really- was, but "feasibility" wasn't it. At least not only.

Anyway, water under the bridge. We get the port and that's what matters.

Yeah, I can play Civ 5 just fine, but Beyond Earth crashes a few minutes into the game. I reported the bug, and after sending my system information, Aspyr just said Arch Linux isn't supported so they can't help. :(
