CorsixTH 0.40, The Open Source Theme Hospital Engine Released

CorsixTH is one of my all time favourite open source projects, so I hope it lives a long healthy life. They have just released version 0.40 which includes some exciting new features to make it more complete.

Theme Hospital is one of the greatest sims ever made in my eyes, and I spent so many hours on it when I was younger it's insane. It's always great to see open source engines for old games as playable as CorsixTH is.

Biggest changes
Added: Epidemics. You can either choose to pay a fine to the authorities or try to cover up the epidemic by vaccinating and curing the contagious patients. Patients going between buildings will NOT trigger the alarm to the authorities.

Added: The Grim Reaper. Previously patients have always gone to heaven when they die. No more! Sometimes they will instead fall down to the middle of the earth in a Lava Hole.

Added: People with visual diseases will no longer arrive at the beginning of the level if that has been specified in the level file. Instead they arrive once a certain amount of months have passed.

Added: If you refuse VIP visits a few times he can sometimes show up anyway.

See the full changelog here. If you need the data files for Theme Hospital we recommend grabbing it cheaply and legally from GOG.com.

About the game
It's a matter of laugh or death in Theme Hospital™, another installment of the Theme series. Design, maintain and manage a hi-tech hospital facility, making the most of limited resources and turning cures into cash. The Grim Reaper stalks the corridors, the ill have some very odd ailments, and the staff want to play doctors and nurses together. No matter how you look at it, you're in control of a very sick hospital.

If there is one word that describes Theme Hospital then it has to be “hilarious.” Almost everything in this game is made with great dose of humour. You might think that someone's illness is not a laughing matter but wait till you see a patient with KingComplex dressed as Elvis or serious case of Hairyitis caused from prolonged exposure to the moon. Finding treatments for such diseases is a part of your job, but there’s no prescription to cure the insanity that may result from trying to figure out those cures. You start off small with an empty building, a few doctors, a general diagnostic, a pharmacy, a reception desk, and a few other necessities. From there it’s up to you to move your way up in the health care industry. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I played CorsixTH lot a couple of years ago, it was really great to be able to play the greatest game known to man on a large monitor and on Linux!

Might pick it up again sometime, but really can't wait until they start adding new diseases, treatments, new levels, decorations and generally improving the original game further. Though Theme Hospital is a work of genius, I really want a new challenge since over the years I've pretty much exhausted it in its current state, so adding those things would give me more incentive to play the game for the 50,000th time.

Love that game :)
I guess it's time to try it out again, last time there were some game breaking glitches unfortunately (handyman bugs etc)

Does CorsixTH also allows to play the original missions and original gameplay?

Yes, it's the original campaign. Nothing significant has changed other than being able to play at 1080p and then a few minor things (last time I played) like menus and a few in-game tweaks I can't remember.

You need the Windows Files from Theme Hospital for CorsixTH and Theme Hospital you can get from GOG.

Theme Hospital don't have a Linux Version. So you can't find a Linux Version from Theme Hospital on GOG

Best Regards and Merry Christmas

Can I use the trick to play the rat exterminator level? It's a fun easter egg/minigame. Glad that I bought the game.

According to the wiki the rats and rat mini game is still on the TODO list:
