Darkest Dungeon: The Butcher's Circus is adding in a new twist on the harsh turn-based combat of Darkest Dungeon with arena PvP battles where you don't risk your standard campaign crew.

Giving players an entirely new way to play the game, you will be entering a new Hamlet location: The Butcher's Circus where The Butcher demands a show. It sounds quite interesting, certainly nothing like the current Darkest Dungeon where the exploration forms a huge part of the usual gameplay. Doing away with all of that to focus purely on facing other players online, and climbing up the ranks certainly sounds interesting. With the supreme style it has, this could be great.

Feature Highlight:

  • Engage in no-holds-barred PvP combat with teams of 4 heroes (without risking your Campaign heroes)
  • Climb the ranks to show off your command of heroes and ability to weather misfortune and violence
  • Unlock banner components and use your creativity to assemble your own duelist heraldry
  • Strategize with new gladiatorial trinkets that can mean all the difference in pitched battles against other heroes
  • A gleefully warped musical theme by Stuart Chatwood, Narrator quips by the esteemed Wayne June, and all new gripping sound FX by Power Up Audio

Darkest Dungeon is available now on Humble Store, GOG and Steam with Darkest Dungeon: The Butcher's Circus due out on May 19. No price has been mentioned yet.

This looks... extremely not good. This isn't a game that really needs online multiplayer, much less on a competitive ladder style. It is a huge departure from almost everything that makes the game good. Frankly, I'm bummed.

This.

I think it's a new way to kill your party.
In a game so difficult to raise one.

Seems like you didn't read. It doesn't use your campaign party.

How's this supposed to work with the GOG Linux build?
Is it going to require Galaxy for it's multiplayer?

Very nice piece of news. This is the kind of coverage we need, given the date of the article. xD Rumor is that each hero will be controlled by a different player, making it paramount to cooperate, while lacking any chat options. Can't wait to see the matchmaking algorithms in action.

Even though I'm not a big fan of PvP modes, it's great news that the developers still keep on supporting and extending the game.
