A simple game at heart, but an incredibly intense game thanks to the deeply evil atmosphere.

Devil Daggers [Official Site, Steam] is an FPS where your only aim is to survive for as long as you can and beat not only your own previous score, but everyone else's at the same time.

I’m not kidding when I talk about how evil the atmosphere is, you’re essentially in some form of Hell. When I play it I start to sweat, my heart beats faster and faster as my time in the game increases.

This game requires fast reactions, a cool composure and a heck of a lot of patience to overcome others' scores.

What makes it truly great is being able to view a replay of anyone on the leaderboard. Want to see how number one did it? Go ahead, just don’t go thinking right away you will suddenly become a god by watching their replay. You will likely fail just as miserably as me for a while.

Most of my runs generally last around one single minute, with my best being only 125 seconds. Around that time it becomes utterly insane, with big snake-like creatures flowing around the screen, floating skulls everywhere and I just became a nervous wreck at that point and I completely lost my cool.

It's infuriating, as for weeks the closest I have been able to get to that 125 second mark has been about 97 seconds, which was today. One day I will beat my own damn time, but it is not today.

I’ve put multiple hours into the game, so that’s a lot of very short runs! Out of 15 of my Steam friends who have put time into Devil Daggers, I’m currently sitting pretty at number 6. Care to see if you can best me?

Very few games are able to nail very simplistic gameplay in a way that can utterly dominate your mind. It has an overall review score on Steam of “Overwhelmingly Positive", and I’m really not surprised.

For something so simple to capture my interest so much, it must be worth a look don’t you think? It’s one hell of an experience, do check it out. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

One step ahead of you ;)

Very cool minimal design game, though admittedly after I satisfied my petty competitiveness I put it down; a bit too high stress for my gaming mood this week :B

Not too bad for a late night run XD

I'll have to improve over the weekend

Not exactly sure how I pulled it off but there was some sweat and clenched teeth involved.

Well the last time I played this game I pressed ALT+F4 in the few sec tries because this game was all go round and round and got dizzy in a few secs with so many flash lights....
Didnt find it interesting or competitive or challenging, just running around like a headless chicken shooting things.
The only challenge I guess is to avoid getting dizzy..

A little advice to all playing this game, since once I learned about this mechanic it seriously boosted my scores I thought I'd share.
Daggers upgrade the more gems you collect but the trick is that you don't collect gems while shooting. You have to stop shooting occasionally for the gems to fly toward you.
(also the big spider guys eat your gems, so people typically say to kill them first)

The game gets so crazy that it's easy to just hold down fire non-stop and it just makes the game harder and harder because you're not getting the upgrades you need. I think it's a pretty fun and clever mechanic, but it isn't really ever explained.
