The latest and greatest in tower defence is now available on Linux with DG2: Defense Grid 2. The Linux version isn't finished, but you can still play it.

Their announcement on it:
QuoteWhen you purchase Defense Grid 2 on Steam, your key works for Windows, Mac, and SteamOS/Linux. If you wish to check out the SteamOS & Mac versions prior to October 14th, you will receive access to early-but-not-complete versions of Defense Grid 2 that are lower in performance than the final game will be, and which still have some bugs and issues that will be updated and resolved in time for an October 14th ship. We apologize for not having all 5 platforms that we targeted ready for September 23rd, but Mac and SteamOS are very close and will be final soon.

Official About
Defense Grid 2, DG2, is the highly-anticipated sequel to Hidden Path Entertainment’s 2008 Defense Grid: The Awakening. Setting the bar as the definitive tower defense game, Defense Grid 2 introduces new worlds and threats to test your tower placement strategies. With a bold new look, a compelling single-player campaign, and the addition of new game modes, online player-versus-player and multiplayer co-op, every play-through brings fun new opportunities and challenges.

I've never played the original, but I hear it was pretty good. To see the latest edition on Linux is fantastic and just serves to boost our library. We do have quite a few tower defence games now, so I hope you find this interesting.

Check out DG2: Defense Grid 2 on Steam. It's not cheap at £18.49, so prepare your wallets to be emptied. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

"hey guys, sorry but things didn't quite go according to plan. Instead of making you sit and stare at the game in your game list and not be able to play it while everyone else is. Here is what we have, it mostly works, help us squash the last bugs!"

^ That is what I took from it, and I like that a lot. Kudos to them. I have not got into TD games yet, but I am interested. So ill add it to my wish list and ill eventually pick it up to support these seemingly honest developers.

The price seems really steep for a TD game. Though I've heard that Defence Grid is one of the best TD games out there. Sadly college is expensive and I don't have the money to try this out... Fall and winter are coming up though so it may go on a sale and if it does I may grab it.

I've seen DG on the XBox,and it's a very good-looking TD game,and fast-moving as well.

It is pricey, however.

I bought the first game which is pretty good, but as I just bought CS:GO I really can't stretch to £19 for another game right now, tight budgets suck. :P
