Drifter is an open-world sandbox space trading game with a procedurally-generated galaxy 100,000 light years across made up of tens of thousands of star systems to explore and features an original soundtrack by composer Danny Baranowsky.

I have tested the game myself and it shows a lot of promise, it just needs more content and to ease you into it better at the start.

The graphics are beautiful and it has a good looking interface, so it's decent enough looks-wise.

Just remember as it is in early access there will be bugs and incomplete features to be found.

Grab it on Steam now:

Ps. You can also grab it from them directly for a DRM free version. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

This game is not really 3D, is it? I can't tell for sure from the trailer if it is or not, but objects in this game look awfully disproportionate. The space space station seems comparable in size to the planet. I mean, they both go past the ship at similar speeds. Also, there is light on the dark side on the planet. There's light everywhere, actually.

For a more real space sim, check out pioneerspacesim. There also a commercial spinoff, called Paragon.

It's 2.5D, actually. Watch the latest trailer for updated visuals, the planet lighting was just an earlier issue that was since fixed. Also, forced perspective makes the planet sizes look similar to station sizes. It's in 3D though.
