Dying Light [Steam, Gemly], one of the best Zombie games available on Linux (seriously it is!) has a free update and Techland have announced their own store.

First up, let's look at Content Drop #0 (one of many free updates planned for Dying Light). It includes a new heavily armed human faction, who have some pretty decent firepower and can be found in the Old Town area. A new outfit for you to wear, a new Mutated Goon zombie to wreak more havoc and a new assault rifle. The assault rifle has a small catch, you need to redeem it (for free) on their new store called Gemly.

Their new store, Gemly, will sell their own games as well as hand-picked games from other publishers. They have titles like Alien Isolation, Total War WARHAMMER, Company of Heroes 2, Day of Infamy, The Witcher 2 and more. The games they have that Feral Interactive ported to Linux aren't tagged as Linux titles on their store, so it's possible Feral may not get a cut from here.

They will also put exclusive content on their store for their own games, like the assault rifle for Dying Light.

I've tried to test out their new store by redeeming the free item for Dying Light, but I cannot login as they must be having a high load right now. It took me 4 attempts to get a password reset email for a Techland account I didn't know I had, trying to reset it has only given me server errors.

If you don't own Dying Light and you have a decent PC, I can recommend it. It's a massive game, with tons of content and some slick parkour action. The expansion (which now comes with it if you buy it), expands the game to be even bigger with a customizable buggy too! It's currently 60% off on their store too, good time to grab it cheap. Quoting: Whitewolfe80Yeah I trust paypal more as I have had extensive financial dealings with the group that owns and operates paypal.
Valve just accept your payment through the debit system, the same exact system that every company in the world uses to accept payment, including your local vodka off-license. They don't have access to your bank account as you originally suggested.
So what exactly don't you trust about them? I am genuinely curious. ^_^

Could be worse. Playstation Store REQUIRES you to save your CC info. Steam has a nice little 'don't save'. First few times I bought something through the PS Store, I ended up adding my card, then removing it right afterward. Now I just buy a card through Amazon and redeem it there. I don't do that often, but occasionally games like Polybius comes along... and if you haven't played that, please do! Need to ping Jeff Minter and request Linux version for it once his Sony exclusivity deal ends...

Quoting: razing32Not sure how much this is great news.
I hope they don't split off into another online store.
If they just sell keys , then fine. But it's getting a mess : Steam , GOG , Origin , uPlay , Microsoft Store etc
I REALLY hope we don't end up with each bigger publisher requesting an account on THEIR service to get to play the games. :(

Agreed. I get annoyed when they think we should sign up to yet another forum to be able to play a game (or get all the features. I think Paradox does this, as does Rockstar...)

If I'm going to join your forum, I want to do it because of the community, or maybe some help. Not because I want a special avatar because I randomly decided to buy some ultimate edition, or you give me in game items because of it...

Quoting: fabertaweBought this recently after holding out... for some unknown reason. Anyway, the game is fantastic, love it. I've put in 40 hours just completing all the side quests available so far and having fun exploring, but as far as the story line goes I'm only now about to go to old town. I wish I'd done it already as I won't now be able to compare it with the addition of the new content!

I got the new gun from Gemly this morning but it did take a few attempts with some server errors.

I'm holding out because its past due for the price to drop from $60. It's not a new game anymore. I would have bought it when it was new if not for 1) there were linux issues from the get-go which took them a while to resolve and 2) it was obviously going to get milked for DLC. Any such game I'll just wait a year or two for a GOTY edition that has all the content bundled. I just can't justify paying $60 for a game that came out 2.5 years ago now (or any portion thereof in a 'sale' markdown unless it's extreme).

I bought it in the last sale a few weeks ago with 60% off and it's the "enhanced" edition, so you get practically all the DLC too! Well worth it at that price.

Quoting: Spud13ySo I need a Gemly account in order to get these free updates or would it be going through Steam?

No, the updates are through Steam. The new gun blueprint you have to "purchase" (for free) on their site and then get given a code for Steam or GOG. And to tell the truth it's not worth bothering if you already have the "gun psycho bundle" DLC as the rifle blueprint with that is actually better anyway. So if I'd known that I wouldn't have bothered registering on Gemly.

As for the update itself... the infected seem faster and more agile and tougher than the "Slums" but I hadn't played the "Old Town" before yesterday so I'm not sure if that's anything to do with the update or not.

The new soldier faction are tougher than Rais' thugs but why oh why oh why oh why does it take three head shots to kill one, that's just nonsense!

And it seems they've patched the inventory duplication "bug" - I'm gutted about that :><:

Nah, the Old town Zombies has always been a bit tougher.

Minter's still in the biz eh? Tempest 2k was one of the few bright spots for the Atari Jaguar.

The most fun thing about Dying Light were the side quests. If they were to make a 20 or 40 more voice acted side quests in Old town and Slums DLC I would pay a lot more than I usually would for DLC for it.

Quoting: GuestTheir store only sells keys for other stores (Steam, GOG), so it doesn’t seem very interesting. I was hoping to see Dying Light DRM-free for Linux there…

For people in Germany it is very helpful, because we can't access the Dying Light DLCs on steam. Even if we have the game already.

Yup, Polybius is basically Tempest2k.. in up to 4k resolution at 120fps, also in 3D and VR if you have the equipment.

I played it in 3D... Really insane.
