Earthlock: Festival of Magic is still heading to Linux

By - | Views: 7,724
Earthlock: Festival of Magic [Official Site, Steam, GOG] gained a Linux Alpha version last year, but they went pretty quiet about it for a while. They have now confirmed they will continue the Linux version once the WiiU version is finished.

You can find details on the original Linux Alpha in this forum post. The developer just recently replied to that post after an absence to confirm it's still happening:
QuoteSorry for letting you wait. The WiiU backers have been patient too, and we are almost done with the WiiU verison. We have not abandoned the Linux version though. I can`t give an ETA, but it will be after the WiiU version.

About the game
Don’t let the cute cartoonish art style fool you. This game is challenging. True fans of the JRPG genre will love it, casual players may want to look elsewhere. Invest the time, and EARTHLOCK: Festival of Magic will reward you with a depth in gameplay that will test the most strategic of players.

It's nice that they didn't forget us. I haven't played a decent traditional JRPG in ages.

They're seriously prioritising the WiiU version? Why?

Probably because they expect their JRPG to sell better on a Japanese console platform, even if it's not the most popular one.

WiiU has a bigger market share then Linux :(

WiiU has sold ~14 Million Units and at the moment we have currently only ~2 Million Linux Players on Steam.

Haven't played many JRPGs at all actually (unless Septerra Core counts)
May give this one a look.

After all the times a Linux port has been put on hold until "sometime after" a Windows/Xbone/PS4 port comes out, it made me smile to read we were waiting on a WiiU port.

Puts things into perspective, doesn't it? :(

It does. This is the kind of reason it would be awesome if Valve relaunched Steam Machines at some point (with all the things everyone agrees they need for success) and they took off. Even if they were as successful as WiiU, that would still multiply the Linux gaming market share.
