EVERSPACE [Official Site], the gorgeous looking space shooter may eventually come to Linux, but it seems it won't be any time soon due to Unreal Engine issues.

Writing a small update to keep everyone informed, they said:
QuoteSmall (negative) update: We've migrated to Unreal Engine 4.16 (mainly for better joystick support and quite a few bug fixes) - however, this caused even more problems on Linux - so it seems we've taken a few steps back. It's going very slow.

I'm especially sad about EVERSPACE, as I really really fired up about it wanting to play it.

Next time you see someone say "just hit the button" or something similarly dumb, educate them. It's almost never as simple in Unity, Unreal Engine or *insert game engine here* as pushing a button for a Linux version.

In this case, we don't know specifically if it's actually Unreal Engine bugs, or the way the EVERSPACE developers are using it. I've heard from a number of developers that Unreal Engine's Linux support is quite bad, hell, even Unreal Tournament has huge breaking issues on Linux and that's made by Epic themselves, so it's not looking good.

What is EVERSPACE?
QuoteEVERSPACE™ is an action-focused single-player space shooter, combining roguelike elements with top-notch visuals and a captivating story. It takes you on a challenging journey through an ever-changing, beautifully crafted universe full of surprises. Your skills, experience, and talent for improvisation will be tested continuously as you piece together the puzzle of your existence through encounters with interesting characters, each having their own unique part of the story to tell. In each exciting run, you will face entirely new situations, ensuring countless hours of thrilling gameplay and generating myriad opportunities for individual, meaningful moments to experience. No matter how skilled you are, death is inevitable but is also only the beginning of a much larger journey.

This is really too, too bad. I was looking forward most to this game of ANY game on Linux. I'm pulling for you, guys! Make it so!

With all the ranting Tim Sweeney likes to throw around about MS abusing the gaming market, he could do much more to make Linux support in Unreal Engine have sufficient resources.

Quoting: Luke_NukemAs far as I know, Linux support in Unreal Engine is completely volunteer maintained. Fairly certain no Epic employees are paid to work on it.

And the ironi in it aswell when unreal devs blame Windows for being a closed plattform, but dont want to work to push the Linux version. I can understand they mainly want to focus on Windows.

Yep the ironi xD

Sad, but finally it’s just a shooter. Beautiful, but shooter. We have brilliant "Overload", „"Strike Suit: Zero” and more, I think. So, we have something to demolish in space... :D
Game I’m really waiting for is "X4”. All "X3” series is available on Linux, and even "X: Rebirth" I enjoyed more than famous "Elite: Dangerous" (which, after few weeks, is simply boring).

Not very different from GoG - DRM Free ,no Linux Galaxy client ,no Witcher 3 Linux version... :) , both are property of CDPprojekt.Money is money , and many of them is in Consoles and Windows.
Event with bad UnrealEngine , Epic have version of new UnrealTournament.

I see your point, but its not really the same thing at all. Gog/cdpr never said there was something wrong with windows or microsoft. Atleast I havent heard anything about that, they never said they wanned to push to other platforms, thats valves thing.
If you read there last update page on the forum, the gog galaxy patch note, they state that gog galaxy for linux is coming,
they are working on it, BUT there is no ETA atm.

To save you the hassel, to look it up.

And ye, the witcher3 thing was a horrible thing, and we still dont know wtf they where doing.
But as always, never pre-order, and Iv learned my lesson there.

So, to go back to my point. Its bit dumb to whine about something and not trying to change it if you got to the power to do so. Like Tim Sweeney have. Linux could opens up more roads to move away from something like microsoft.
And thats the ironi in his statement about windows / microsoft. I dont like microsofts way, Im gonna hate on them. But Im not going to support alternativ platforms like Linux.

Iv never seen or heard gog/cdpr reason, act or say something like that.
Having said that, I dont blame them for aiming for windows first, its a the bigest platform and linux are small compaired to windows. And its not like there linux titles are broken, cant be played or are badly supported. The only part Im missing without a galaxy client is cloud saving, but meny games dont even have that when your using gog galaxy.
think only 4 - 5 of my 25 games on gog have cloud save.

Sry for rambling on and on xD. Yes Im a gog fan boy xD
