The good-looking and insane RIVE has been long advertised as Two Tribes final release. For those who don’t recognize them, they're the Dutch studio behind puzzle games like Toki Tori, and they're very respectable, since they never released a bad title. Plus, they expressed interest to support Linux since early stages of Linux gaming as far back as 2012.

Although some may think that this is a cheap marketing campaign, there is a truly interesting article written by the developers where they explain the alleged reasons for not making games anymore. Though, after reading it, I can’t help but wonder: what would happen if the game turns out to be a massive commercial hit? Would they change their minds?

The game is already available on Steam and Humble Store.

Finally, Liam will be testing the game and he will be writing up his thoughts when he has put some time into it. He only gained access to the game at release, as there was no press access for Linux before release.

Note from Liam: The game is downloadable and launches, so you're good to go if you wish to buy it.

Great developer with great games and I am sad to see them go. For sure, Rive will be added to my collection.

The original Toki Tori is also very hard.

I remember the actual original Toki Tori. Which wasn't called Toki Tori at the time. :P Probably around 1990. Ugh, that's a loooong time ago.

You know, it's a weird announcement for sure. They've got a back catalogue consisting of Toki Tori (puzzler), Rush (puzzler), Edge (puzzler), and Toki Tori 2 (puzzler).

Now I own three of those four, but must have gotten them in bundles because seriously... puzzler games aren't my thing.

Now they come away with an absolutely jaw-dropping twin-stick schmup, finally, a Two Tribes game I want to play... and it's the last thing they'll make!?

Nope. It was called Eggbert. It was a homebrew game for the MSX2 system.

Sad to see them go, this seems like a good dev worth supporting and I didn't know they made the Toki Tori games, I wonder if they ever tried to put them on GOG, that would give them some more widespread attention.

Since they're offering a DRM-Free version on HB I'll eventually buy these games.

My thoughts on it will be up tomorrow. Enjoying it a lot so far.

It's on my wishlist, I have all their other games so I'll have to finish the collection.
