Fugl – Meditative bird flying game should hopefully see Linux support

I've been keeping an eye on Fugl [Steam, Official Site], after seeing it on Twitter and decided to see if it would come to Linux. Seems quite likely actually!

When asking the developer on Steam if it will, they said this:

Hi Liam,

Yes absolutely. We would love that. Since this is a custom engine everything takes a lot of time though, so it cannot give an estimate on when.

Really great to get such a positive answer!

It turns out, that Linux support is listed on the Steam page as well, under the "Rendering, Hardware and Platforms" heading in the Roadmap section.

It sounds like a very relaxing game. A bit weird perhaps, but it could be ideal when you're in the mood for something perhaps a bit different. The game is a sandbox, with no set rules so you basically fly around and go wherever you want. It doesn't sound like there's any set goals, which sounds strange if all you're doing is flying.

You will discover creatures, discover new lands, take on characteristics from found creatures with a possibility to find "rare mythical creatures" too.

I'm keen to give it a go, mainly to see what it's really all about.

Could be nice for our young children as well (always looking for games that open mind and matches children sensibilities)? Hope they plan to add some challenges, stories with goals (like disseminating seeds to populate in trees new areas, pollinating if your are a hummingbird, predate if you are a bird of prey, sing with Fatboy Slim Bird of prey!, etc.) or collection purposes (like having played all creatures).

Children, especially in conjunction with the word young, are supposed not to stick to TV and gaming. Take them outside and play and explore the world with them then just going for the comfortable way to make them being silenced because they're occupied by gaming.

Looks similar in a lot of ways to Fruits Of a Feather, which is free on Itch and runs perfectly under Linux.

Could we not be judgemental here please? Some games are a fantastic way for children to learn and appreciate things perhaps they aren't able to do in real life (for various reasons). Appropriate games for their age in moderation are perfectly fine.

I'd be quite happy just cruising in this game to take my mind off stuff. Looks relaxing.

God you sound like my mother as of 20 years ago "go outside and kick a ball like a healthy kids, or you with get square eyes"

Such an medieval attitude, not every one dreams of becoming a athlete -and that's ok -kids drawn to books or computer games are no worse of for being allowed to spend some of their time with such activists

In German it's Vogel. I'm pretty sure this is a Danish game, at least Scandinavian. Or they just borrowed the name ;-)
