Fugl – Meditative bird flying game should hopefully see Linux support

I've been keeping an eye on Fugl [Steam, Official Site], after seeing it on Twitter and decided to see if it would come to Linux. Seems quite likely actually!

When asking the developer on Steam if it will, they said this:

Hi Liam,

Yes absolutely. We would love that. Since this is a custom engine everything takes a lot of time though, so it cannot give an estimate on when.

Really great to get such a positive answer!

It turns out, that Linux support is listed on the Steam page as well, under the "Rendering, Hardware and Platforms" heading in the Roadmap section.

It sounds like a very relaxing game. A bit weird perhaps, but it could be ideal when you're in the mood for something perhaps a bit different. The game is a sandbox, with no set rules so you basically fly around and go wherever you want. It doesn't sound like there's any set goals, which sounds strange if all you're doing is flying.

You will discover creatures, discover new lands, take on characteristics from found creatures with a possibility to find "rare mythical creatures" too.

I'm keen to give it a go, mainly to see what it's really all about.

I'd buy it just to zone out at the end of a hard day.

Children, especially in conjunction with the word young, are supposed not to stick to TV and gaming. Take them outside and play and explore the world with them then just going for the comfortable way to make them being silenced because they're occupied by gaming.

Kids want to have fun as well, you know? Kicking them out so that you can enjoy silence at home is not always the best option. Games are great when the weather is foul.

In Danish and German at least :)
In German it's Vogel. I'm pretty sure this is a Danish game, at least Scandinavian. Or they just borrowed the name ;-)

You are of course correct about the German spelling, not sure what happened in my brain there

Hi All,

I am one of the developers on Fugl, and the team is just putting the final touches on the Linux version of the Early Access version of Fugl, and it looks like we'll need just a few extra volunteer testers this week. As a start the game will require a new version of Ubuntu (probably 16.04 LTS) or SteamOS 2. Also, you'll need a fairly modern ATI or NVIDIA card. In general hardware minimum specs will match those for Windows atm (http://store.steampowered.com/app/643810/Fugl__Meditative_bird_flying_game/) . The goal is to lower those requirements over time as we get closer to exiting Early Access.

I only need a few extra testers, but if you have time to help me out, then besides the team's gratitude, I can give offer you a free beta key for the game in return :). Write fuglsupport (at) kotoristudios . com, if you are interested. I cannot promise that everyone who writes will get a key, as we only need a few testers.

Do you accept testers with other distributions than Ubuntu or SteamOS?

Please make sure to test with streaming from Linux to a Steam Link/Steam Controller - it's so frustrating to real "full controller support" only to find that that excludes the steam branded one. I'd offer to help test that but I'll be swamped for the next few weeks so I'd not get much testing done.
