For those into your Visual Novels, you're in luck as Shining Song Starnova released today on GOG while the developer works on a release with Valve. This is in addition to A Kiss For The Petals - Remembering How We Met that was also put up on GOG today.

It seems it's currently stuck in review on Steam, likely while Valve figure out whatever they're doing with these types of games. I've not a clue what's going on any more since they started handing out removal notices to a few games, then saying they will relax their rules and now a few games, like this, are stuck in limbo.

Interesting to see GOG take advantage of the situation…anyway, stop—it's trailer time:

About the game:

Take the stage in Shining Song Starnova! The girls of STARNOVA signed on to become idols thinking they will become the shining stars of their dreams. Instead, they found themselves trapped in a cutthroat business where only the strongest could survive. Along their path to becoming top idols, they're forced to come face-to-face with the harsh reality that being a star isn't as perfect as it seems on TV...

YOU are Mr. Producer - it's your job to make these girls' dreams come true! Will you and the girls successfully navigate the industry and become the greatest idols in the nation? Shining Song Starnova is a dramatic and gripping story about the path to stardom. Just remember: Even though it may seem dark, the light at the end is always shining!

This visual novel features seven different heroines to choose from, and is partially voiced by popular Japanese voice talents!

You can grab it on GOG.

First I was like "lets gift it to Liam and make him play it on stream", well and then I saw the prize. A bit high for a desperate happy Liam. You lucky boy I am sorry.

It is kinda funny how Steam got special mentioning in the title. Other Steam-exclusive games don't get "not currently on itch.io" or "not currently on GOG" suffixes. Makes me think there is Steam™ and there are… everything other.

Almost like this site is called "Gaming on Steam". ;)

I don't mind if Steam (or any other store front for that matter) doesn't want to allow games which have pornographic content (or at least versions with such content) on their platform. I'd just like them to be more consistent about it. This particular developer's other games are no different in regards to sexual themes, and yet those are already on the platform rather than in limbo.

Here I was, thinking people would appreciate me noting the fact that it's not on Steam, but instead...

It's as if you're intentionally trying to be annoying. Yes, Steam was mentioned in the title, because it was supposed to be released on Steam too. This was mentioned in the article text, it's important people get the full information on what's going on.

I'm a big GOG fan, let me be clear on that. I'm also a big Valve fan as well, but let me be clear that as a website we're not focused primarily on any one particular store. It just so happens that the biggest action generally happens on Steam.

I regularly give GOG their own space for releases, including when their releases are later than other platforms to make sure a) we do give GOG their fair share of time and b) because people like to know. I even did a post about GOG's new profile system, didn't have to at all as it wasn't really relevant, but since we do such stuff for Valve it was right to do it for GOG too.

So no, we are very much GamingOnLinux.

May be, may be… Perhaps I've slept not that well tonight, who knows.
Please, don't be mad at me. I appreciate what you are doing.

Aside from that, the news is not about the game, really. I mean, I am 90% sure you have not played the game at all, considering the news has nothing on the game and its qualities. The closest to the game itself is just a basic promo copypasta.

Now, the "meat" ot the news is that while Steam is continiuing to fumble with VNs, GOG, apparently, took advantage of its rival and tries to push forward on that field. And that is geniunely interesting.

Perhaps, the title is not perfect. Consider this: "GOG adds yet another VN ("Shining Song Starnova" ) in its catalog while it is stuck in the publishing limbo on Steam."
Sounds more relevant to the point.

That's personal preferences, I think. Personally I'm trying to be a fan of nothing.

But, speaking of which, perhaps it is time to add GOG link to local accounts now that GOG has user profiles?

I tested it to make sure it works, but I didn't go far as I'm not really into it (not because it's bad, because it's not my preference and I didn't want to cover it poorly). It's also impossible for me to review every game, otherwise we would hardly ever post anything.

Until someone steps up who likes these types of games, we won't cover stuff like it in full depth.

Either way, the title is still factual and relevant. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it ;)

I'm just trying to be clear that I'm not against GOG or try to shovel Steam into GOG release news for no reason.

Added to my TODO list.

I've been thinking that several times in the past already. But it's not really fair. Reporting about gaming on linux nowadays has to be a huge part about Steam - unfortunately, I have to say. More competition really would be a nice thing to have.

That said, other sites are much worse in this respect, and things have improved a lot in the past year or so. I'm fine as it is....
