Are you in need of a new game but don't have a lot of cash? GOG are here to save your week with a rather early sale for St. Patrick's Day.

Their selection of Linux games on sale this time isn't huge, so here's five random picks of games that I believe are good and worth your money and attention:

They're also doing a mystery hat deal, where you pay £2.29 and you end up with a random game. Not that such a thing makes sense for Linux gamers, since it may give you Windows-only games. You can see the full list here and the GOG sale ends March 19th.

You can also hop over to our Sales Page to see all sales from GOG and more!

Quoting: adamhmOlder/classic games currently on sale on GOG that I've made Wine wrappers for:

Freedom Force vs the Third Reich

Hi, any hint how i can play this full screen and in 1920*1080, or at least in a good ratio so it's not stretched ?

It works well in fullscreen, but if i change resolution to fit my (standard i think) screen ratio, my screen is "destroyed" (weird size and unplayable, with the picture "out of the screen", hard to explain...).

I'll be adding an option to the start scripts soon to select the aspect ratio & apply the required hacks as detailed at WSGF:

This is an issue with Wine itself AFAIK, it's always seemed to have issues with switching display resolutions in my experience. It's one of the reasons why I always try to have my wrappers detect the system's desktop resolution & set that on first run before starting the games (the other reason is that some desktop environments really hate when the desktop resolution is altered by something & it can cause big problems for them). One possible workaround is to set a virtual desktop.

Thanks,

I tried to understand the hex stuff, and installed GHex to edit the ffvt3r from /gamedir/ folder
There, i can't find the offset 013A50, but i do find 013A58. As i don't know what i am doing, i prefer not to do more, yet...

However, looking at some screenshots, it seems the weird cursor shape and some portraits ratio are from the base game ? How is it possible ?

The offsets given at WSGF aren't exact... anyway I updated the wrappers with the aspect ratio options earlier, so if you use the updated version you'll now be able to apply/revert the hacks without needing to edit the executables manually.

Quoting: adamhm[users-only]Here's a code for Deus Ex GOTY Edition for whoever's fastest (it's not currently in the sale but I have a spare key):

EB[GREEN]F[VIOLET]-ADEF[YELLOW]-[GREY][BLUE][YELLOW][GREY][RED]-[VIOLET][WHITE]A[YELLOW][WHITE]

Wrapper link: Deus Ex for Linux

Still available...

I think i need to delete somehow my previous configuration, because when i start the game, i still have the "destroyed view" with a huge zoom and partially out of screen, without possibility to move it around. Not sure if it makes sense...

The game was going well the first time, then i played with the ingame options to find a good ratio. First i played a few missions with a stretched screen (but odd enough it was my screen size HD1080 : 1980*1080), then i changed to something smaller (HD720 : 1280*720) thinking i could play windowed, and i destroyed the settings. Since that, when i start the game, the image is "out of the screen".

I don't find any files i may delete without loosing my saved game to "fix" my issue.

According to the PCGamingWiki page: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Freedom_Force_vs._The_3rd_Reich
You can run the game in windowed mode by passing the "-w" argument to it:

./start.sh play : -w

Alternatively you could try setting a virtual desktop instead, e.g.:

./start.sh play desktop=1280x720

(there are also other ways to set a virtual desktop with my wrappers; see the release notes for more information)

Deleting ~/.local/share/fforcevt3r/Settings/options.dat (or <wrapper root>/userdata/Settings/options.dat if using local userdata) should revert it to default settings.

Thanks !

I still can't get a windowed game : it's windowed but taking all the screen, always with the same resolution no matter the options i pick.

But, at least i can play again with resetting the options.

Also the mouse cursor is extremely sensitive, not unplayable, but annoying. and it's stretched, but looking at some videos on youtube, it's seems "normal". Weird, if it's by design.

In windowed mode you need to restart the game for the resolution change to take affect. Alternatively you could try setting a virtual desktop rather than use the game's windowed mode, and the virtual desktop window should resize automatically.

A lot of games have weird quirks like that, not a lot that can be done about it

Quoting: HendrinMckayI have a large amount on both platforms, although more on Steam. If a developer is going to spend the time support Linux, I'm going to support them, regardless of the platform. Second, Valve themselves are supporting Mesa development. Plus the whole no GoG Connect on Linux bothers me to no end. To only support GoG.com(and CD Projekt) only hurts Linux as a gaming platform in my opinion.

When it comes right down to it, I don't think we will see eye to eye on most of this. I have my opinions and you have yours. To each there own. I'm not going to stop buying from Steam (or GoG, or Itch, or Humble) and I'm sure nothing I can say will have you buy something from Steam.

To be fair to GOG, they've said they'll bring GOG Galaxy to Linux eventually. They recently released it for MacOS and Linux is next ;)

One thing GOG does much better than Steam is not needing a 32 bit runtime. Although Vale seems to be contributing to Flatpak development to become more flexible with their runtime, so that should eventually stop being a concern. BTW, has anyone benchmarked a game both on Steam and on GOG to see the performance impact of the steam client, Steam runtime(Ubuntu 12.04 packages compiled with old GCC and lacking subsequent performance optimisations) and DRM(though I would assume games that are sold on both don't contain DRM)?
