Google login is now live in addition to the Twitter & Steam logins

Just a quick heads up, today I implemented a Google login option to hopefully make it easier for some of you.

It works exactly the same as the Twitter login, you can link your Google account in the UserCP, or new users can just use Google to register and login.

This is in place on both LifeOnLinux and GamingOnLinux.

The style of the social login buttons were completely re-worked too, so they look a lot better and fit together nicely now.

I am still looking into a possible way to have GOL logins work on LifeOnLinux, but getting that right is tricky as it needs to be done correctly and securely.

Hopefully this makes it easier for a few of you. Took me half a day to do, so I hope so! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I guess it is a step toward unified (G/L)OL logins?
Did you consider a mechanism similar to OpenID? I am just wondering...

But thanks, I will check that out.

EDIT: No way to register with special chars in the username? I must say I am disappointed :(

Nope, we locked that down on GOL ages ago too, pretty sure I emailed you and everyone else asking if we could change your username. Special characters get in the way of certain stuff we might do in future.

Oh, sorry about that. I must have missed your email. Feel free to s/@/a/, I just want to avoid having two different usernames for two somewhat related websites (and would actually like some kind of merged profiles).

Then, I don't think it really comes in the way of some features: usually, a user ID or HTML/HTTP-style escaping would do. But that's your call on this one.

Being worked on, need to get my other account authorised to have a private login key for it, as I don't want to share the GOL Steam login key.
