Insurgency was very exciting to have on Linux, as it's the most tactical FPS game we have available. The new updates have made it much more fun too, with gamepad support and decent Steam Controller support added in.

I tried it out earlier, and while it does need work for the Steam Controller I had a very nice experience with it. It gives you a keyboard button overlay with "Unassigned" at times when telling you to do stuff, which isn't great, but luckily there's not many keys to remember (all of which can be seen in the Steam Controller config, and setup all nicely).

I played a 5v5 online game with it, and not only did I manage to kill someone, I managed to secure two points and get an achievement for being the most valuable player. Have to say, I'm pretty happy with that.

If you have a Steam Controller, I suggest giving it a go as it's really quite fun.

About the game
Take to the streets for intense close quarters combat, where a team's survival depends upon securing crucial strongholds and destroying enemy supply in this multiplayer and cooperative Source Engine based experience. The follow-up game to the award-winning Source mod, Insurgency is highly competitive and unforgivingly lethal, striking a balance between one-life gameplay and prolonged action.

Wonder if them using the Source engine helped with the proper SC integration. Still, great news altogether - hope more games follow the example.
I bought this game when it came out for Linux and now have 60 hours playtime with it. Love it. It seems that the developers have been considering porting it over to a new game engine for a while now and I'm eagerly waiting to hear if they're going to go through with it and with which engine. Last I heard they were leaning towards UE4.

My one complaint with the game is that there is no Mac or Linux support for downloading custom maps from FastDL servers in-game.

Edit: Re-read some material and was mistaken, they're not looking towards porting Insurgency to a new engine. What they are planning actually is to build a new game with Insurgency model on new game engine and while it's in progress already it's still a couple of years out.

Insurgency is absolutely superb. Great graphics, engaging maps, nightmodes, loads of game types.

I primarily love it because of the co-op modes. My days of PvP ended with CS 1.6, but the co-op modes really encourage teamwork and use of the microphone to communicate. Get a good server with some communicative players and you'll have a blast.

Quoting: dubigrasuSo you can play this with the controller and survive?
Most people can't even survive using the mouse, including myself. I think its harder than CS:GO, as I don't want to lay down somewhere for minutes to be shot from the side.

My thoughts exactly. I suppose that in a game where everyone is using the controller you have equal chances, but (as much as I like the controller) in a normal game playing with it is an exercise in futility.

Good game. I bought a couple of days ago.

There's (fairly fun) CO-OP gamemodes where you play against bots. If you get good you could possibly get somewhere in that even on controller, on the easiest difficulty (it still gets hilariously hard on the higher ones).

I was playing it over the weekend using a Steam Controller. I am new to Steam Controller and I am coming from consoles. I managed to make 15 kills though (and 15 deaths), so a 1:1 k/d ratio, which is great for someone new to Steam Controller. As a player coming from consoles, I would say Steam Controller is definitely superior to traditional controllers when it comes to FPS games.
Valve should stop marketting their Steam Machines to PC gamers and start marketting them to console gamers instead.

It's honestly not that bad. I played a couple rounds myself both on mouse and on a steampad, and while of course it was easier for me to quickly snap my aim to someone unexpected with a mouse than with a pad, most of the trouble I got into were because of my stupid positioning and the lack of map knowledge rather than missing mechanical skills.
