Insurgency FPS Now Has The Linux Port On Their Official Trello Todo List

By - | Views: 11,806
The FPS junky in me approves of this, the developers of Insurgency added the Linux port to their official Trello todo list, and it looks like it already runs.

They do note it still has some issues to work out, but the release isn't far off now. They previously stated they want it out before Steam Machines, so I can't wait to try it.

You can find Insurgency on Steam, but please don't buy it until the Linux version is released.

Thanks for pointing it out Ben. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I have strange feeling that this is a port of toGL. Right?

I remember that they were saying that they are merging parts of source engine so they can run it on linux because Valve didn't give them CS GO Linux code. Also CSM shadows don't work so I think that it's a native port (or maybe toGL just isn't able to translate CSM shadows properly to OGL but I don't know).

What type of FPS is it?
Seems to be rather CS:GO or at least Battlefield than CoD. From what I've seen I'd say: Faster than CS:GO, slower than Battlefield?
As it's using the Source Engine it should be a native port. *afaik* toGL was only a mid-time layer and long-term they wanted to implement native oGL - or now Vulkan. With Vulkan out it might be a really nice game even.

It's basically like CS with a few splashes of realism. not Arma-level realism but enough to make it feel tense and tactical at times. Its kind of like CoD's Hardcore mode (if you ever played that?) but with a bunch of different modes, some nice weapon / equipment customization options, and coop missions (that are a lot of fun and a good way to practice before diving into the competitive modes).

Its a great game. I've been playing it since alpha, but its nice to know that I wont have to reboot in order to play it now. :p

Hm, this sounds good. CS was actually the most-realistic I ever played (never did Arma, only watched it sometimes), so this might be really interesting. CoD Hardcore I never really played (I'm one of those Casual all-time newbs :D).

Definitely will check it out as soon as it's out for Linux!

No worries, current OSX version coexists with Windows in multiplayer :)

Native Linux version means no more Wine for me :D

I bought it on release date because linux port was confirmed to be released soon... so I never played it ;(

Good to hear, i was able to withstand the sales till now, so they will get 1 linux sold unit.

I'm pretty sure we won't see a Vulkan port this year as the specifcations aren't out now, maybe we will see a "native" game or at least demo from Valve eg.
