inXile Entertainment have announced that they're working on a remaster of the original Wasteland and it should support Linux.

They're obviously not really giving out any details right now, apart from it having updated graphics which they say their aim is to maintain the spirit of the original. It will also run natively in current operating systems, at all current resolutions and offer other quality of life updates as well. It's being done by Krome Studios, the same team doing the remastering of The Bard’s Tale Trilogy.

It's forming part of a new bundle, the "Wasteland 30th Anniversary Bundle" on Steam which will include:

  • Wasteland 1 - The Original Classic
  • Wasteland - 30th Anniversary Edition remaster (due early 2019)
  • Wasteland 2: Director's Cut
  • Digital Extras: Wasteland 3 Music Track "Frozen Waste", Wasteland 2 Novella: All Bad Things, Wasteland 2 Novella: The Earth Transformed Ghost Book One, Wasteland 2 Novella: Death Machines Ghost Book Two, Wasteland 2 Concept Art Book, Wasteland 2 Choir Songs EP, Wasteland 2 Original Soundtrack.

In regards to Linux support for the remaster, I asked and they said this to me:

I'm not 100% but almost certainly, yes.

For anyone wondering about Wasteland 3, they continue to confirm Linux support for that too.

Scroll down to "our goals for the Trilogy remaster". I'm guessing something similar will happen to Wasteland.

Hmm , a more polished , less pixelated version.
Fair enough , with enough artists that seems doable.
If the game logic stays roughly the same they can pull it off.

There wasn't, not really sure what they're talking about.

Wasteland (the original) is on Linux, Wasteland 2 is on Linux, Wasteland 3 is confirmed for Linux and 99% the Wasteland Remaster will be.
