Jagged Alliance - Back In Action Linux Beta Is Out

By - | Views: 10,446
Looks like this one was missed, Jagged Alliance - Back in Action now has a beta available for Linux and it has been ported to Unity. You may remember we told you it may come back in Novembe, but it wasn't 100% certain.

Here's the announcement:
QuoteDear Jagged Alliance Community,

During the last months we have been working behind closed doors on an interesting project. And now the time has come to share it with you.

One of our Teams has been porting Jagged Alliance: Back in Action to a new engine to bring it on Mac OS and Linux – the new version is based on Unity. And it’s on Steam already. If you own Jagged Alliance: Back in Action you can now play it on Mac and Linux within a Beta Branch. The password for the Branch is “metavira1994”. How to access the branch is described further down below.

You may ask yourself why we give you access to the beta already and the answer is rather simple: We’d like to hear your feedback. We have come very far. There are still some bugs left, that’s for sure. Some of them are already on our list, some of them we did not discover yet. So if you find them, feel free let us know. We have opened up a subforum where you can post feedback. You can find it here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/57740/discussions/1/

If you find something which is not identical to the original Back in Action, also, feel free to let us know. The issue is probably already on our list, yet it is important for us to have your feedback as well.

How to access the Beta Branch:

1. Open up Steam

2. Go to your library

3. Right click on Jagged Alliance: Back in Action

4. Chose “Properties”

5. Go to Betas

6. Enter “metavira1994”

7. Press “Check Code”

8. Use the drop down menu to switch to the beta

9. Wait till the download is completed

10. Run the game

About
Jagged Alliance Back in Action is a contemporary remake of the latest title in the much-loved Jagged Alliance series of turn-based mercenary-themed strategy games.

Designed from the ground up to offer a modern gaming experience, Back in Action showcases an updated isometric 3D look and interface, highly detailed character models and a variety of new gameplay features. Back in Action takes players to the fictitious country of Arulco, where a ruthless dictator has seized power and only a small group of rebels stand to resist him. Tasked with freeing the island from the dictator’s iron grip, players will command rebel and mercenary forces while using tactical, diplomatic and economic tools to keep troops supplied and ready for the next flight, all while commanding them directly in nail-biting battles.

Back in Action’s innovative “plan & go” combat system combines real-time strategy (RTS) with turn-based elements to guarantee that the intricacies of tactical warfare are rendered in dynamic, exciting gameplay. This challenges would-be commanders to master not only strategy and tactical combat, but also to maximize their team’s capabilities through RPG-like character advancement.

Has anyone who owns it opted in to see how it plays? Let us know in the comments and spread the word!

It's in my queue to replay under Linux. Good to see them port it over, the Windows version always had some problems under Wine.
