Just a heads up, PAYDAY 2 is currently broken again on Linux

For the second time in only a few months, Overkill has managed to push out an update for PAYDAY 2 [Steam] that has completely broken the Linux version.

The developers have noted they are aware of it, but no solution has been offered as of right now.

This is troublesome, as it's not the first time they have done this. Not only that, but the game is free to play for seven days and on sale. So Linux gamers are missing out on a game, and the developers could be losing Linux sales.

One day developers will learn to test all the platforms they support when pushing out a patch, but we aren't there yet it seems. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: PicoboomTheir response to the safes-as-micro-transactions was to keep mum until the their overall customer reviews began to plummet because their community turned on them and downvoted them in such numbers that gaming sites as prominent as RPS began to spotlight the story.

Just want to clarify that as I think you blame Overkill/Starbreeze too much there:
They bought themselves free from 505 games for 30M USD just before removing micro-transactions, so it's likely not been *their* decision to put them in first place ;)

Payday2 was always a pain in the a** as its gianormous updates used the same disk space as the whole game, so you need effectively 60GB on your drive, to play and to play again tommorrow after the next update.

Quoting: DissCentIt is just a rollback to an old version - I can't play with my Windows friends...

Sure about that? because after the 11 gig update it also shows me the "new safehouse" message. The game itself seems to work but going to the safehouse makes it crash.

Well, I could not join any lobby hosted by my friends. They had version 1.5.14 and I had 1.5.10, according to the "game.ver" file in the game's main directory.

Your'e right I can only join lobbys of other linux users. probably because of the rollback.
my version on the title screen says 1.1.1 for some reason- game.ver says 1.55.10.

seems to run again after another 1.9 gig patch (at least the safehouse does). I also found a mod that enables coop with windows users even with the downgraded linux version (just search in the linux subforum of the payday2 discussions on steam)

Have you considered doing an interview with GoL someday? I have no idea if Liam or the staff would be interested in it at all, but I'd be interested in hearing what challenges/etc. there are.

I could talk about the basics of Payday 2 modding, but I don't forsee me talking about lua code at length, largely because A: I'm not that much of a coder, and B: It was a really, REALLY easy fix.

Also, Sort of self-advertisement, but I made a video about this particular matchmaking incident awhile ago where I talk a bit about QA testing: View video on youtube.com ,and again in April, specifically about Overkill and the "Search For Kento Event": View video on youtube.com
