Good news astronauts! Lifeless Planet is now available in Beta for Linux & SteamOS. Hopefully there aren't too many issues.

QuoteHi guys, I'm happy to finally make the Linux Beta available for your review. This is an "early access" of sorts in that I need the community's help to test out this build and let us know if it's working well.

Hardware requirements should hold pretty close to the PC (windows) specs. In regards to Linux, you'll need a 64-bit OS.

Known Issues:
-There's no Steam Achievements support right now.
-We noticed choppy sounds at the start of the game.

If you've purchased the game, here's how you get access to the Linux beta:
1. Open properties for Lifeless Planet in your Steam library (right click game title)
2. Go to the Betas tab.
3. Select "devbeta2 - Linux Beta" from the list
4. Enter access code: "mysteriousPlan"

Please understand this is an early Beta and our first go at a Linux build for any game... so apologies in advance if it fails to run or is buggy. If you don't want to help testing, better to wait for the final release. THANK YOU in advance for those of you who can provide feedback and help with this project. I can only provide my thanks, but it's a very sincere thanks!

I am personally very interested in checking it out, and it's really great to see the developer put the Beta in the open like this. It's great in general to see a developer actually deliver on their promise.

As a space science fiction fan myself, I will probably pick it up, will you?

Quoting: psyminGame isn't visible in the game library under linux so we cannot enable the beta :(

Can you not switch to "Games", then enter the access code on it? You can still see non-Linux games on Linux.

Yep, I was able to enter the code "mysteriousPlan" there .. but it still isn't available for the Linux platform. Looks like the depots are also not there for the package IDs we have. I let the dev know on the Steam thread.

Also, a bit offtopic .. I'm torn between devs getting money and encouraging people to buy linux games .. anyway, the game is on sale here for about $7 USD

Downloading...
I got it on the Indiegala August heat bundle on my Windows Xp era.
If I like it, Im gonna buy it again for my new 100% Linux Steam account.

I wonder how many linux betas are there that we don't know about.

Ok, just purchased from Steam. Initial download of 0kb. Directions have steps out of order. There is no linux beta option until you put in the code. After that it downloaded 500MB. Havent really played, just made sure it ran. There is a launcher where you can select your resolution and quality. One bug I noticed is selected isn't visible. It may be that white text is selected on a white background. This is 1920x1080 selected in the right hand column and "good" in the left.

Plays well here, solid 60fps (capped) at the highest quality setting ...

I like the game... I have solid 60 fps (most of the time) at highest quality with a Zotac GTX 960 AMP! Edition and Intel Core i5 4690K on Ubuntu.14.04 LTS 64bit... I have to try with other inferior hardware like Core i3 4160 and a GTX 750ti...

I wish Feral and Aspyr follow the example of this Dev... But it seems is to much for them to share a beta password :><:
