By - | Views: 26,578
One of the Minecraft developers shared a graph today of different launches of Minecraft across PC platforms, and the results are interesting.

We asked what these launches covered:

Looks like Linux still has some ways to go for Minecraft fans. It's good to see it as high as it is though, as I honestly expected it to be lower than it is.

The Linux number is still pretty huge. I mean nearly 118,000 is not something a developer should scoff at and that's just the people who like Minecraft... I know a lot of Linux users who don't like Minecraft... Especially so after Microsoft bought Mojang.

Also, Minecraft is not on Steam. It would sell much more Linux copies if it was on Steam, I'm sure.

Exactly, and this is only a test from 1 day of logins.

Quoting: FergleFerglesonI can't imagine that MS's acquisition of Minecraft has exactly endeared it to the linux-faithful. But for me, the real surprise:

Windows 95 - 1076

There shouldn't be that many Win95 boxes left. Period. Let alone running MC. :)
i never even thought the game would still run on that OS...

I presume the Linux version is mostly Raspberry Pi users.

Why would you have expected it lower then this? It's less 1%.

IMHO it was a bad timing to count as many moved off to minetest/voxelands, also 7D2D was released for Linux just a short time before. I would have expected higher numbers.

Nice try! But no thank you, this version is to crippeled for me. I prefer FTB xD

Since it belongs to M$ now, I don't really wanna play it anymore and I think a lot of Linux gamers feel that way :/
StianTheDark Dec 5, 2014
I will continue to support Minecraft until the day comes when I can't play on Linux anymore or with any less features.
titi Dec 5, 2014
Since M$ bought it I think most linux usres started to play minetest or something else. M$ already proved several times that they always break everything cross platform ( for exmaple skype ), so its just a matter of time until Minecraft will not work on linux anymore.
