Ethan Lee, porter behind quite a few decent Linux titles recently did a talk at MAGFest and his slides can now be downloaded.

There's also now audio:

The slides are pretty nice, but I hope there is a video of it to show off too as you can miss a lot going by just the slides. He has some major gripes with middleware, which isn't surprising to me. The amount of times a Linux port has been held up due to middleware not being on Linux is annoying.

The "Test Your Port!" section is gold, too many games are thrown out without the developer doing any testing, especially Unity games.

Ethan Lee is also the developer behind FNA which he uses to port games.

It's really great to see more and more talks about Linux game development and porting happen! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Oh, geez. Last night I literally wrote the same kind of code in slide 20.

Well, poop.

Thanks, that was very interesting. I am a huge Ethan Lee fan - he has ported some amazing games. I make a point of picking up the games he has done since, even if it isn't something I am that interested in, I know the port is going to be bulletproof.

Quoting: GuestAny chance of getting a video of the talk?

Not sure if it was recorded, but there's a decent amount of detail in the slide notes, which I missed first time around, since I just downloaded it and hit F5.

The video link regarding QT Creator being used as a debugger is also really excellent.

Hmm slides do not open for me, SEH Access violation, using Libre Office 5.1.0.3. Strange.
