Little Racers STREET gains a brand new Linux (and macOS) port using FNA

By - | Views: 26,288

Update: 06/02/20 - It's now live for everyone. No Beta branch needed.

Ethan Lee is back with another game port, this time it's a little different. Little Racers STREET already had a Linux version but it's been remade.

Why? Well, Little Racers STREET is an older game now first released back in 2014. Milkstone Studios gave it same-day Linux support but it's suffered from various severe issues, with many not able to actually play it anymore without digging into workarounds. So today, Ethan announced the new port that's been completely redone with FNA.

Going into further details, Ethan mentioned this is their 60th Linux port which is a crazy milestone. Ethan has given Linux some fantastic games like Rogue Legacy, Salt & Sanctuary, Pyre, Dust: An Elysian Tail and so on. They also did the port for free, as it's so old and unlikely to make a profit but you can support Ethan's porting work and FNA/FAudio using GitHub Sponsors on their page and if you're a game developer you can hire Ethan to do porting work.

Pictured: Little Racers STREET on Linux with this Beta, working very well.

I'm genuinely happy this has been done. Little Racers STREET is actually a damn good top-down racer that's honestly way too underrated and worth a go. Testing out the Beta, it's great! Everything seems to work just as you would expect it to and it should continue working for a very long time with this new port.

You can find Little Racers STREET on Steam here. If you wish to try the newer Linux (or macOS) port, it's available on Steam under the "osx_linux_test" Beta branch you can opt into.

Very underrated game. Good tho see this. I actually forgot about the game, as it's been a few years since I played it, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go again.

Must be among the lucky ones, but it worked just fine when I played it a while ago. But improvements are always welcome. Especially since it is a fun little game

yeah it works on ubuntu and debian if you have libreadline 6 installed. But on opensuse it didn't work for me even with that workaround.

Yes, I couldn't get it to work on my OpenSuSE system either. However, as of today it works fine with the new beta so I'm pleasantly surprised!

another game that runs fine on Ubuntu but has problems on other distros is Cossacks 3 ... the units look black on opensuse and other distros I tried but they look fine on Ubuntu.
