It seems the new Micro Machines World Series [Steam] racing game from Codemasters will be heading to Linux. Pretty exciting!

Just today the Steam store page was updated to have a SteamOS icon (shown below) and SteamDB shows it was added to the platform list.

They have also added some proper SteamOS/Linux system requirements, so it seems pretty likely this is actually happening. A minimum of OpenGL 4.2 support is needed for your GPU and they even list that Mesa is supported for AMD cards, so it sounds like they know what they're doing here.

I've shot off a message to Codemasters to see what's happening and will update you all once I get a reply. It would be odd to add such specific system requirements and check the Linux/SteamOS icon box if it wasn't.

I loved playing it when I was younger and if they do it right, it could end up proving rather popular. Games like this are essential, especially when a lot of us have partners, kids and friends over often. The local multiplayer in games like this can be massively fun.

Micro Machines V4 required quite a bit of tinker to make it work under Wine IIRC so these news make me happy! Absolutely no pre-purchase though. We should demand out-of-the-box working products on Linux in all fields nowadays

I believe it when I see it. Hopefully it's an in house port and not Feral's.

I wouldn't pre-purchase. All of the Codemasters media just says "PC" with no system information, and all of the stores except steam (Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, etc.) just list Windows. It could be a rather unfortunate clerical error, though I'm hoping it's not.

It is not looks like an error. They gave up sys reqs for Linux and it mentions Mesa , Alsa like Linux specific terms.

That looks like they know what are they doing.

Jaycee has a point. Only if the contract says so. Aspyr & Feral have their names as they assume the role of Publisher for the Linux versions.

It could be anyone doing it on a contract simply on behalf of Codemasters. Ethan Lee ports for example or Icculus don't have their details on their ports as they were just contracted to work on them.

Not going to argue on that. Never pretended it was a sure thing. This said, any hints from these 2 guys? :)
