Creative Assembly aren't the best at communication, and it seems the Total War: Rome II Linux & SteamOS port was silently dropped.
Originally the Total War: Rome II Steam page listed it was coming to SteamOS & Linux, but that was removed. It also also listed in the big announcement from Valve about games coming to SteamOS.
A user on twitter included us in a conversation with Creative Assembly's "Community Coordinator", and it didn't start off very well:
As expected, no reply after that was said, so the same user followed it up later:
They did at least port over Total War: ATTILA, so maybe they just decided to have that replace it. Who knows, I sure don't. It's a real shame too, as reports on ATTILA show pretty terrible performance. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'd be happy as a pig in sh.. if Rome 1 were ported over. Never got into Rome 2 since first day release was about a 2min wait between turns!
Rome 1 with some napoleon: TW stuff (like army reinforcement) would be just right. If this Rome 2 comes out I'll play it, in the meantime I might give Atilla a go, who knows.

'Total Warhammer' is confirmed, I think our friends at Feral maybe doing the port though :). So, no news from CA about Rome II, I'd like to have it due to the setting, although Attila may overall be the better game.
Empire is good, but I would rather have had Napoleon ported, perhaps someday...

This is a very sad new to me. I waited for this game 2 years and now... It's an absolutely shame. My two favorite sagas of TW are Shogun and Rome, I can't play any in Linux. Creative Assembly, you have disappointed me
