Valve has announced a Steam sale simply titled ”STEAMOS SALE” with interesting games that are already available and games that they claim are heading over to the platform. The list seems to include some quite big titles too!

A big part of the games featured on the sale are titles that are already on Linux, such as the Aspyr ports Borderlands 2 and Civilization V and indies like Ziggurat and Kerbal Space Program, but as much as we love those games the announcement has something even bigger. Games that apparently are getting ported but have so far been unannounced.

Torchlight II is now officially available, so go check it out. It seems they waited for this big announcement to make a real splash!

Now, before I set out to list these games, I'd like to remind all of you not to blindly buy the games mentioned. I know, I know, it seems very official and all, but we haven't heard anything from some of these titles, so be careful. We are trying to reach out to everyone we know for confirmation.
However, they have massive "Coming to SteamOS" banners on the Steam homepage, so it's extremely exciting.

Okay, now that we have the disclaimers out of the way it's time to blow your minds.

The sales page promises titles such as

- Shadow of Mordor
- Payday 2
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Saints Row IV
- Company of Heroes 2
- Magicka 2
- Total War: Rome II
- The Witcher III
- GRID Autosport
- Total War: Attila
- Evolve - (listed here: http://store.steampowered.com/universe/games/)

All will be heading to SteamOS/Linux.

Shadow of Mordor is officially confirmed, and is being ported by Feral Interactive. Feral have stated to us officially that it will release “this spring”, and they have publicly announced it on twitter now too:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is coming to Linux this Spring. View the trailer on YouTube: https://t.co/H3mfNsn2jN pic.twitter.com/ne2rXFNEuc

Payday 2 is fully official now too:
QuoteWe're also announcing that PAYDAY 2 is under development for SteamOS. It'll be released later this fall.

Saints Row IV, Company of Heroes 2, GRID Autosport and Total War™: ROME II are also official, and they have updated their store pages to say this:
Quotewill be available on SteamOS and Linux in 2015.

Magicka 2 have updated their store page availability to state this:
QuoteAvailable: May 26th, 2015 (Linux: Fall 2015)

Batman: Arkham Knight - Already has a Linux icon, possibly not a same-day release even though it has a Linux icon, as the store notes it will be released on SteamOS in the "fall" which is after the release. So, not sure why it has a Linux icon now.

The Witcher III - The only one not mentioning anything about SteamOS/Linux on their store page.

This is exactly the type of support and push we needed to see, and I'm extremely happy it's happening! I'm trying to remain coherent amongst this utter nuke of news.

I never saw such an exciting announcement on an "alternative OS", not even back in my Mac OS 7/8/9/X days. It's raining bloody great games right now, and Linux distributions have some great arguments in their favor. By choosing Linux as the basis for SteamOS, Valve offers us a great opportunity to break free from a monopole that's been undisputed for too long. I'm not saying that people will massively move away from Microsoft - that's highly improbable, but their position is more disputable than ever, and that is perhaps the most interesting fact about SteamOS, other than me being able to play hundreds of games and spending my money like crazy.

Quoting: MacabreHeartDue to the news from Feral I went back to check on their radar. They've updated it with the Morder symbol but that whale is still there. I wonder what it could be if they haven't announced it today?

I think it's Evolve. If you edit the game path url you get a permission denied error if a game has had a folder structure created and a generic file not found if it hasn't. There is a game folder on the feral website called evolve

I'm actually not surprised by this list, but I'm nonetheless happy for it. Remember, guys, a company's track record is a big deal in predicting newer titles for Linux, so is this website when SteamDB entries are reported, even if the editors are unsure themselves. To me, it all adds up.

Pretty much this.

That sums it up nicely lol. I had no intentions on drinking this evening but I think this news is very deserving of a good pint of the local (to my US state) IPA in my kegerator right now! *cheers*

*side note.. we need a beer glass added to the "smiley's" ;)

I have no words to describe what I'm feeling.

I've just bought (Yeah I took the risk :D) Torchlight II and the port quality seems AWESOME. Can't wait until we have all those games released.

As for Linux...
I gave up most games cause I literally refused to have a Win partition. And now I'm seeing all this. Man it's just too much :D

Hail to you Linux brothers.

Man this article goes up like a rocket! 13 Pages in 5 hours that might be new record. Im definitely going with Payday2, PD: The Heist was playable through Wine, but I want the real thing.

PS: when send it was on the fourteenth page.

Have you guys looked up http://store.steampowered.com/universe ? Now it's not the "Steam Unisverse" that is expanding, but "PC gaming"!

It'll be interesting to see what they show - although we already have lots of games to look forward to.

I've purchased Torchlight II. I'm certainly excited about some of the others (S.O.M., Batman and GRID especially) but I wont be paying a dime until the GOL crew says they are available and running well.

EDIT* well.. i'll buy the batman game when it comes out regardless. Love that series.
