Lutris game manager has another release out adding more spit and polish

Posted by , | Views: 4,851

Two updates in the space of a week? You spoil us Lutris team. The open source game manager continues spitting and polishing.

While this update is on the small side, every little helps towards making it the best experience possible. It's a very handy application, one ring program to rule them all. Need to run some games with Wine, how about an Emulator, Steam? Lutris covers it all.

Here's what Lutris 0.4.23 includes:

  • Prevent monitor from quitting games that open a 2nd process
  • Run on-demand scripts from game directory
  • Tell the user what executable is expected after a failed install
  • Fix a circular import causing issues on some distributions
  • Add missing dependency for openSUSE Tumbleweed

Word on the street is that the main developer, Mathieu Comandon, is taking some time off from other things to put some full-time work into Lutris which sounds exciting.

Find the source on GitHub or head to the official site for downloads.

I'd love to get my Lutris looking like it does in your screenshot, but apparently under MATE the "Use dark theme" option doesn't work at all. The only way seems to be changing to a dark system theme and having all your windows dark.

Funny Discord and other apps with dark themes don't have that problem.

Lutris lets me easily install and run The Elder Scrolls Online, so no complaints here.

Cestarian'polish' lol, lutris is anything but polished (I guess it's version number starting with 0. is a clear indicator of why...). Does it work? sure. But if you run into problems, even something as simple as wanting to install your runners somewhere else than the default location (A huge problem for winesteam in particular since it'll get really damn fat after a while), don't expect to be getting any help on their forums, that place is dead as a brick. I've been fairly unimpressed with lutris so far, but it does work, and has made my life easier once or twice which is the most important part I suppose.

Well if you would use Discord there is the Lutris Team very Active and you get help fairly quick. I even did some bug hunting for them once for a few hours since there where some issues with the Lutris Runtime.

I see, so the forums are worthless, and the per-game bug reports on the website are meaningless (well you can't really make them anymore I noticed, or at least I for whaterver reason can't) so if I run into any issue at all with anything lutris related discord is the only option? Well why didn't they just say so on the bloody front page instead of providing a link to the forums? If you want to find any mention of discord you have to go to the 'about' page.

You can do that even more easily on steam now. Proton runs it just fine.

Sounds good! I've never really touched Lutris only looked a bit on their website.

Sounds pretty cool that you can play Overwatch with it with pretty good performance.

This is true, I'm officially focusing on Lutris for the next few months. As everyone can see, the project is a bit of a mess right now and it needs to be brought up to the standards of the community. This is not possible with me working another job but thankfully I have a bit saved up to last me long enough to bring Lutris is a good place!
